Senior Software Engineer

About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design and evolution of our core enterprise services. In this role, you will architect resilient microservices, modernise legacy systems, and drive our cloud-native transformation. You will work in a collaborative, Scrum-based environment, mentor fellow engineers, and take end-to-end ownership of critical integration challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Architecture & Development – Design, build, and deploy highly available, secure microservices using Java and Spring Boot. Own the full lifecycle of RESTful APIs that power our product ecosystem.

• System Integration – Lead integration of internal and external platforms using Enterprise Integration Patterns (EIP) and tools like Apache Camel/NiFi, ensuring reliable, seamless data flow.

• Cloud & DevOps – Manage deployments on public cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/PCF). Build and optimise CI/CD pipelines to automate testing, deployment, and monitoring.

• Performance & Reliability – Identify performance bottlenecks, resolve production incidents, and champion quality through code reviews and automated testing.

• Technical Leadership – Mentor team members, translate business requirements into technical solutions, and guide the team through the full SDLC from ideation to post-production support.

• Modernisation – Drive migration of legacy components to modern, scalable architectures.

• Agile Delivery – Participate in Scrum ceremonies (planning, grooming, stand-ups) and track progress in JIRA to ensure timely delivery.

Required Skills & Experience

Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer with deep expertise in backend engineering, demonstrated by a track record of designing and scaling high-traffic, enterprise-grade systems.

Experience working on enterprise systems within banking, financial services, payments, or other highly regulated industries is preferred. Candidates with experience in comparable high-throughput, compliance-sensitive environments are also encouraged to apply

Technical expertise:

• Strong hands-on experience in Java (8/11/17) and the Spring Boot framework (our entire microservices codebase is Java-based).

• Strong practical experience in microservices architecture and building well-documented RESTful APIs.

• Solid hands-on experience with SQL (MySQL/MS SQL Server) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases.

• Proven experience with Enterprise Integration Patterns (EIP) and ESB tools such as Apache Camel or Apache NiFi.

• Working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or PCF) and containerisation (Docker).

Leadership & best practices – Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects, mentor engineers, and drive practices like TDD, CI/CD, and clean code.

Communication – Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align technical solutions with business priorities in a cross-functional environment.

Nice-to-Have (Preferred but not required)

• Experience with Kubernetes or other orchestration tools.

• Familiarity with event-driven architectures or messaging queues (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ).
