Job Description - Staff Engineer

About Networks for Humanity

Networks for Humanity (NFH) builds open digital infrastructure for a more interoperable, inclusive world. Our work spans three pillars:

•    Finternet — an open, interoperable financial infrastructure layer enabling seamless movement of value and assets across institutions, borders, and asset classes.

•    Beckn Protocol — an open network protocol powering decentralized commerce and service discovery across industries.

•    Africa & MENA Lab —applied programs bringing open network principles to real-world social impact, including financial inclusion pilots across Rwanda, Kenya, and Nigeria.

NFH operates as a distributed organization with legal entities across the US, India, Switzerland, and Singapore, working with governments, regulators, financial institutions, and technology partners worldwide.

About the Role

We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer based in Singapore to help architect and scale the core technical infrastructure of NFH’s fabric, the open, interoperable rails that allow value to move across financial systems as easily as information moves across the internet. This is a high-leverage technical engineering role: you'll achieve engineering-led outcomes, build systems that need to work across diverse regulatory and institutional environments, and work within a growing engineering organization, while staying hands-on with the hardest technical problems.

You'll work at the intersection of distributed systems, financial protocols, and cross-border interoperability, partnering closely with NFH's CTO, protocol architects, and partner institutions (central banks, financial infrastructure providers, and technology platforms) to bring NFH Fabric specifications to production-grade reality.

What You'll Do

•    Lead development of core NFH's fabric infrastructure components, including interoperability layers, asset tokenization frameworks, and cross-institutional settlement mechanisms.

•    Follow and develop technical direction and standards across multiple engineering teams, ensuring systems are secure, auditable, and built for global scale from day one.

•    Design APIs, protocols, and reference implementations that financial institutions, fintechs, and government partners will build on top of.

•    Drive technical collaboration with partner organizations (banks, payment networks, regulators) to ensure Finternet specifications translate into interoperable, production-ready systems.

•    Develop critical architectural decisions around security, data integrity, consensus, and resilience in systems handling regulated financial workflows.

•    Represent NFH's engineering perspective in technical working groups, standards discussions, and partner integrations.

•    Balance long-term architectural vision with the pace required of a fast-moving, mission-driven organization.

What We're Looking For

•    1+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant time designing and operating large-scale distributed systems in production.

•    Demonstrated experience as a technical lead or staff-level engineer, setting direction across teams rather than just within one.

•    Deep expertise in at least one of: financial infrastructure/payments systems, distributed systems and consensus protocols, API/protocol design for multi-party interoperability, or security-critical systems engineering.

•    Strong systems design fundamentals: you can reason clearly about tradeoffs in consistency, availability, latency, and security at scale.

•    Comfort operating in ambiguity — NFH Fabric is being built and standardized in real time, often alongside partners, regulators, and emerging specifications.

•    Experience working with or alongside regulated financial entities (banks, payment processors, central banks, or similarly regulated institutions) is a strong plus.

•    Track record of mentoring engineers and elevating engineering quality and practices within an organization.

•    Excellent written and verbal communication—this role requires translating between deeply technical details and partner-facing, sometimes non-technical, audiences.

•    Based in Singapore, with the ability to collaborate across time zones with teams in the US, India, and Europe.

Nice to Have

•    Experience with tokenization, digital asset infrastructure, or central bank digital currency (CBDC) systems.

•    Familiarity with open protocol ecosystems (e.g., Beckn Protocol, UPI, account aggregator frameworks)or similar public digital infrastructure models.

•    Prior experience at a mission-driven, public-interest technology organization, standards body, or large-scale open infrastructure project.

Why Join NFH

•    Build infrastructure with global, systemic impact — the kind of foundational technology that quietly reshapes how value moves for billions of people.

•    Work directly with the founding technical leadership, shaping the Finternet vision.

•    Operate with significant technical ownership and autonomy in a flat, mission-driven organization.

•    Join a genuinely global teamworking across the US, India, Switzerland, Singapore, Africa, and MENA.

Networks for Humanity is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to building a diverse, inclusive team.
