Summary
Transcelestial’s vision is to improve the connectivity experience for the next billion people. We believe that connectivity is a human right and Transcelestial is on a mission to solve the problem of internet distribution and provide affordable, high-speed internet to everyone.
Transcelestial’s next-generation wireless laser communication technology is one of the most effective solutions in the distribution of high-quality, high-speed internet connectivity, making it well-poised to solve civilization’s long-term communication needs - and ultimately improve connectivity for 1 billion users globally.
Highly reliable and secure, its light-weight, shoe-box sized CENTAURI device leverages its proprietary laser technology to create a wireless distribution network and can be quickly, easily and cost-effectively installed on any standard telecom pole or tower at a faster time-to-market than standard fiber-optic cable.
Over the longer-term, Transcelestial aims to develop a constellation of small satellites positioned in Low Earth Orbit, allowing their laser network to not only beam across cities but upwards to connect continents across the world too.

About the role
The Vision Software Engineer will develop computer vision and image processing algorithms for Transcelestial’s satellite payloads and space systems. The Vision Software Engineer will also support computer vision requirements for space missions by fixing issues and introducing improvements.
As a Vision Software Engineer, you will:
- Take ownership of the computer vision and image processing architecture for an initial upcoming satellite mission and terrestrial deployments, guiding the team with your practical experience
- Interact closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure mission requirements (specifically regarding pointing, acquisition, and tracking) are clearly communicated and executed
- Lead computer vision activities for free space optical communication terminals, taking charge of algorithm development for target detection, beacon tracking, atmospheric turbulence mitigation, and background noise rejection
- Design and validate embedded vision subsystems and image processing pipelines for space and ground segments, utilizing hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, edge compute optimization, and real-time performance analysis
- Manage and lead software-hardware integration and test procedures, ensuring successful calibration of optical sensors, camera systems, and seamless payload integration into client satellite buses and optical ground stations
- Deliver core first-phase vision processing projects on an aggressive timeline within 30 days
- Operate, troubleshoot, and improve Transcelestial’s optical ground stations
What you will bring:
- More than 2 years of relevant working experience: Computer vision, image processing, and algorithm engineering, with hands-on experience deploying code to edge devices in space, aerospace, or autonomous platforms
- Extremely strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, especially in unfamiliar and time-sensitive situations
- Willing to go above and beyond, with grit.
- Strong attention to detail, a meticulous and highly-organized character, and no ego
- Keen ability to make engineering trade-offs and assess risks with respect to business objectives
- Strong verbal/written communication and presentation skills
- Ability to thrive while working with a diverse team from different backgrounds in a highly collaborative, time-sensitive environment
- Active use of AI-powered development tools to accelerate the software development lifecycle, including code generation, refactoring, debugging, and testing
- Working knowledge of Git
- Good knowledge of Linux (Debian)
- Experience with computer vision libraries and programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Python, OpenCV) for real-time sensor processing and algorithm development
- Proficient in programming in Python and C++
- Comfortable working with the command line
- Experience working with Docker
- Experience working with ROS 2
It is a bonus if you:
- Have full lifecycle experience building a computer vision system for a satellite mission, space optical payload, or high-precision optical ground station
- Bring extensive experience in sensor calibration, camera integration, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing
- Demonstrate drive and capability to expand software deployment processes from prototyping to highly reliable, scaled field systems
- Have acquired expertise in one or more of the following areas: Pointing, acquisition, and tracking (PAT), star trackers, AOCS/GNC, adaptive optics, sensor fusion, or machine learning for edge devices
- Are proficient with industry-standard tools and frameworks such as CUDA, ROS, MATLAB, PyTorch, or TensorFlow
- Have expertise in real-time operating systems (RTOS), embedded Linux, or FPGA/GPU image processing, strongly applied to optical or space payloads.
What’s in it for you:
- Be part of a high-performing team working on groundbreaking technology
- Earn a competitive salary and stock options package
- Company-provided Macbook Laptop
- Generous Annual Leave
- Comprehensive, top-tier medical benefits
- Daily lunch allowance (in-office)
- Free coffee and snacks
