About Diabetes Singapore

Diabetes Singapore (DS) is a charity and registered social service agency. At DS, we are dedicated to the fight against diabetes. We are committed to providing education, care, and support to people with diabetes, their families, and the wider community. Join our skilled team and make a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by this condition.

The role

We are looking for a dedicated and technically proficient Registered Nurse to join our clinical team. This role is central to our mission, focusing on the direct delivery of essential diabetes screenings and patient education.

Your primary focus will be providing Diabetic Retinal Photography (DRP) and Diabetic Foot Screening (DFS) services on our mobile screening buses and at our centres. You will also be instrumental in our community outreach efforts, conducting point-of-care testing and empowering patients to manage their health effectively.

Key responsibilities

Clinical Screening and Patient Care

1. Core Screening Services (Centres & Mobile Buses)

  • Perform high-quality Diabetic Retinopathy Photography (DRP) to detect retinopathy; and
  • Conduct comprehensive Diabetic Foot Screening (DFS), which includes identifying early complication signs and providing crucial preventive patient education.

2. Nurse Counselling and Patient Education

  • Provide individualised counselling and education tailored to patients with diabetes; and
  • Develop and implement personalised care plans to support patients in managing their condition.

3. Community Outreach and Point-of-Care Testing

  • Conduct point-of-care testing, mainly for Glycated Haemoglobin (HbA1c) and Lipids, during community health screenings; and
  • Participate in outreach events to raise diabetes awareness within the community.

Reporting and Operations

1. Report Management

  • Take lead responsibility for the submission of patients’ reports to referring healthcare providers within the mandated time frame; and
  • Ensure strict compliance with PDPA guidelines and all organisational protocols for data security.

2. Patient and Operational Duties

  • Assist in scheduling follow-up appointments and referrals as required; and
  • Set up, troubleshoot, and ensure the smooth operation of all screening equipment for our mobile buses, clinics, and other assigned sites.

Professional Practice and Development

  1. Ensure all patient care delivery is carried out according to established standards of care and practice.
  2. Keep abreast of current trends in diabetes care, and contribute to reviewing and formulating diabetes care and management protocols.

Job requirements

Essential requirements

  • Must be a Registered Nurse with a valid license from the Singapore Nursing Board (SNB).
  • A minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, preferably in a hospital or community healthcare setting, with a background in diabetes care and management.
  • Demonstrates strong clinical reasoning skills, with critical and analytical thinking abilities in all duties.
  • Proven competence in providing nurse counselling and patient education.
  • IT proficiency for accurate documentation, data entry, report submission, and troubleshooting digital systems, including DRP equipment.

Highly Desirable

  • Possess certified competency in Diabetic Foot Screening Assessments and Diabetic Retinopathy Photography.
  • Experience with conducting public and corporate health-related talks.

Nice To Have

  • Comfort with engaging members of the public on preventive care and raising health awareness at outreach events.
