Job Description - HR Business Partner (Singapore, Japan, Korea, India)

Position Summary:

This is a high visibility, high impact, highly empowered HR generalist position that is accountable to the HR Manager (Singapore, Japan, Korea, India). Its responsibilities span from supporting / improving existing HR operations to contributing to Business strategies through the development, improvement and application of best practice People processes.

The opportunity will suit an ambitious candidate who can bring business savvy and relationship skills developed through a significant amount of business exposure. The role holder will need energy, resilience and, very importantly, eagerness to learn in order to face a variety of challenges and succeed in this demanding, yet highly satisfying position. As professional standards are key, appropriate professional development via internal coaching and more formal training opportunities will be provided and encouraged.

Key Outputs: 

• Build and maintain strong working partnerships with line leaders for the countries involved on their strategic needs, contribute to the success of long term People strategies and the improvement of organisational capabilities and effectiveness. Understand their people priorities, and work pro-actively with them to provide value adding, business focused HR solutions and interventions.

• Deliver a full spectrum of people processes for the countries involved, such as recruitment, induction, development, performance management, disciplinary process and grievance handling, expatriate administration, compensation and benefits, supervision of payroll and administration in line with both local and globally agreed strategies

• Keep abreast of ongoing labour legislative changes, and in ensuring ongoing compliance with employment legislation in the countries involved

• In respect of Industrial Relations, the HR Business Partner will assist the HR Manager in ensuring that the Union representatives of Singapore entity are appropriately engaged on matters relating to the Union, including collective bargaining

• Actively participate in subscribed local total remuneration and benefits surveys; and in the local design, delivery, administration, and review/redesign of country level benefits plan, including meeting any regulatory submissions required

• Actively participate in the development, simplification and continuous improvement of global and local HR policies and processes, also through membership of company HR global Networks

• Participate in the country level audit, crisis management team, and in other Quality and Operations related activities as assigned

• Amount of business travel will be <10%

• Any additional responsibilities as assigned

• Exposure to a truly international context, with frequent interaction with Group HR teams and business leaders worldwide and hands on practice on the Countries within the Singapore cluster, including Japan, Korea and India.

A successful candidate is likely to have:

• High integrity and ethical standards

• A good local Degree preferred

• Project experience, technology savvy and change management skills would be advantageous

• Well developed business awareness, gained through experience and/or specific formal education

• Good analytical ability, both quantitative and from a broader problem solving perspective

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Strong influencing skills and cultural awareness are required in order to successfully interact with a wide, diverse colleague spectrum and to promote harmonious Union/Management relationship based on trust and respect

• Proactive, curious, eager to learn, interested in best practice in order to contribute new ideas

• Self-motivated, autonomous, responsive, works well under pressure

• Rigorous approach, effective in implementation

• Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in HR with sound knowledge of employment law and proven track record of providing generalist HR support at an operation & strategic level, preferably in a multinational environment (experience within the Chemical Industry and/or in manufacturing Plants will be an advantage).

• Experience with Labour Relations involvement in areas of collective bargaining, grievance, arbitration and mediation resolution would be advantageous.
