Legal Counsel (Maritime Law) - In House

Our client is an established international organization within the maritime industry. They are seeking a Legal Counsel to join their in-house legal team and provide legal support across commercial, operational, regulatory, and dispute-related matters within the business.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and support for cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A), joint ventures, and strategic investment transactions.
• Partner closely with business stakeholders on transaction structuring, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies, while offering constructive challenge on the commercial viability of projects.
• Coordinate legal and compliance due diligence processes in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external counsel.
• Support post-acquisition integration activities, corporate secretarial matters, corporate advisory work, and regulatory filings, including competition law compliance.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal and commercial agreements.
• Assist with compliance-related matters, including advisory work, training initiatives, third-party due diligence, sanctions screening, and internal investigations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (J.D.) from a recognised institution, preferably with admission to practice law.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in private practice or an in-house legal function, with exposure to corporate law, M&A, compliance, or related areas.
• Strong ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
