Operations Trainee (Ship Brokering Industry)

Simpson Spence Young (SSY), one of the world's leading independent shipbroking companies, is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Operations Assistant to join our Singapore office.

This is an excellent opportunity for fresh graduates and individuals with no prior shipping experience to gain hands-on exposure to international shipping operations. You'll receive on-the-job training while working alongside experienced brokers and operations professionals, supporting the successful execution of voyages around the world.

What You'll Do

As an Operations Assistant, you'll play an important role in ensuring voyages are executed smoothly after a shipping contract has been concluded.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting brokers and the operations team in managing shipping voyages and contractual obligations.
• Assisting with post-fixture operations, including voyage monitoring, document control and port coordination.
• Coordinating with shipowners, charterers, port agents, terminals and surveyors to ensure efficient cargo operations.
• Preparing and maintaining voyage instructions, operational reports and charter party documentation.
• Monitoring vessel schedules, voyage progress, cargo operations and performance updates.
• Developing an understanding of different cargo types, vessel specifications and international shipping regulations.
• Working closely with both internal teams and global business partners to ensure every voyage is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with contractual requirements.

• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
• The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• An understanding that the shipping industry operates globally around the clock, with the flexibility to respond to urgent operational matters outside normal office hours when required.
• No prior shipping experience is required, on-the-job training will be provided.
• A Diploma/ Degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics, Supply Chain or a related discipline is advantageous, though not essential.
