The incumbent will act as a key commercial link, managing contract execution (CoAs), maintaining critical market relationships, and identifying spot and period opportunities.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Chartering & Commercial Execution

  • Fleet Employment: Execute the marketing, chartering, and commercial employment of chemical tankers within the assigned region to achieve optimal earnings and utilization.

  • Voyage Economics: Prepare detailed voyage estimations, freight calculations, and commercial proposals to assess the profitability of prospective fixtures.

  • CoA Administration: Overlook the management, timely nominations, and seamless execution of Contracts of Affreightment (CoAs).

  • Market Analysis: Conduct routine market research and monitoring to track chemical cargo movements, competitor activity, freight rate trends, and emerging risks.

  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor vessel schedules and port turnaround times, working proactively to minimize delays and optimize overall voyage margins.

Contractual & Risk Management

  • Fixture Documentation: Draft, review, and finalize charter party agreements, ensuring all terms are legally sound and aligned with company risk management standards.

  • Issue Resolution: Identify and proactively resolve potential contractual disputes or ambiguities, coordinating closely with legal and claims teams regarding demurrage or performance claims.

  • Digital Systems: Maintain accurate and timely updates in the commercial chartering software to ensure data-driven decision-making and reporting.

  • Commercial Support: Assist management with data gathering and analysis for budgeting, forecasting, and commercial strategy reviews.

Key Stakeholder Relationships

Internal Collaboration

  • Operations Department: Coordinate closely to monitor ongoing voyages, align on technical/scheduling constraints, and maximize operational efficiency and profitability.

  • Post-Fixture Department: Partner to ensure accurate, timely freight and demurrage invoicing, and support the swift collection of outstanding accounts receivable.

  • Management: Provide clear, routine updates on fixture statuses, market positions, and vessel availability.

External Network

  • Client Relations: Serve as a reliable, primary commercial point of contact for chartering clients, fostering long-term trust.

  • Market Presence: Build and maintain active, productive working relationships with shipbrokers, charterers, and industrial chemical cargo owners.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Requirements

Technical Competencies

  • Maritime Expertise: Strong understanding of chartering practices, charter party clauses, and chemical tanker operations (including familiarity with IMO cargo segregation and safety standards).

  • Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with maritime commercial systems and voyage estimation tools (e.g., IMOS, Veson, or equivalent applications).

  • Analytical Skills: Competent in commercial arithmetic, layout of voyage estimates, and evaluating freight-per-ton variances.

Core Competencies

  • Negotiation & Influence: Strong commercial acumen with the ability to effectively negotiate freight rates and charter terms.

  • Resilience: Ability to work efficiently under pressure, manage multiple high-priority fixtures simultaneously, and adapt to volatile market conditions.

  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.

  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous in reviewing legal fixtures and tracking voyage variables to protect profit margins.

Education & Experience

  • Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping & Logistics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of direct experience in chemical tanker chartering or closely related commercial shipping operations. A proven track record of successfully fixing vessels independently is required.
