Senior/Marine Superintendent

salary Salary :

$8,000 - 14,999 monthly

Job Description - Senior/Marine Superintendent

Functions & Responsibilities:

Daily Operations

  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining a safe, cost efficient and environmentally sound operation standard in compliance with TMS as well as International Marine regulations for a given number of vessels.
  • To manage the daily operation of the number of vessel assigned to him in accordance with TMS.
  • Advise Masters/Chief Engineers and ship staff on
  • Navigation operations such as UKC, supply of charts & publications etc.
  • Cargo & tank cleaning operations
  • Port operations
  • Anchoring & mooring operations
  • Port, passage & war information for all vessels sailing into problematic areas etc.
  • Assisting vessel with various operational issues like stevedore damages/port operations/cargo hold cleaning and preparations with regards to different type of cargo being carried.
  • Assisting masters with regards to CP and voyage instructions and ensure owners and charterers requirements are met with.

Incident/Accident/Crisis management & investigation

  • Member of TSM emergency response team.
  • Conducts investigation and root cause analysis of incidents, accidents, near miss & STOPER Cards.
  • Review corrective actions, preventive actions and recommendations from investigation and analysis of accidents, marine casualties and near misses.
  • Assist, arrange and coordinate table top exercises and emergency drills.
  • Assist in coordinating, arranging and timely follow up Flag State Inspection, External & Internal ISM, ISPS and MLC Audits as directed.
  • Assist in timely follow up of Port State Control (PSC) inspections.
  • Follow up, review, approval and submission of the corrective active plan / report to authorities as required.

Liaising with Drycargo/Right Ship Inspections

  • All PSC inspection reports must be promptly sent to Drycargo first and subsequently followed with CAR.
  • Assist in coordinating, arranging Rightship inspections on vessels as required.
  • All Rightship inspection to be followed up with CAR.
  • Assist in maintaining vessels star rating.
  • For new take overs vessels, liaise with the Master/on board trainer to ensure all surveys /inspections are done and completed prior departure. Have the vessel registered with Rightship.

Shipboard inspections

  • Visit vessels regularly. Should endeavour to visit a vessel twice a year. But at least one sailing visit to be done.
  • On each visit, a Superintendent Visit Report is to be completed and left on-board. Following inspections needs to be conducted during these inspections.
  • Marine Inspection
  • Navigation Audits
  • Inspection
  • All audit and inspection reports need to be filed/updated in common drives or database as applicable. Follow up with vessels/office to close the deficiencies noted during these visits.

Crewing

  • Give input/comments on the performance evaluations of Masters and Chief Officer assigned to the vessel under supervision.
  • Provide input to the Manning Department on recruitment of Senior Officers for the assigned vessels.

HSSEQ

  • Monthly Safety meeting review and verification
  • Assisting vessels for documenting/conducting risk assessments. Evaluation and monitoring.
  • Shipboard training carried out and records maintained for SOPEP/SMPEP, STS, VRP, VOC, VGP, ODS, SEEMP etc.
  • Evaluate & document off-hire records pertaining to cargo operations and speed/performance.
  • Assist in periodical management review of TMS, record findings from the reviews and propose actions if necessary.
  • Assist in arranging external safety audits and on-board training by co-ordinating with the appointed audit or training company.
  • Carrying out internal audits are required.

Experience and qualification

  • Valid Master Mariner (Class 1) or Chief Engineer CoC with 2-3 years of sailing experience on bulk/PCTC carriers.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of shore-based experience as a Marine Superintendent or similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of bulk carrier operations, cargo handling, and global trade routes.
  • Expertise in ISM, ISPS, MLC, and environmental regulations (MARPOL, IMO 2020, CII)
  • Experience ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, including ballast water treatment, emissions control, and waste management.
  • Familiarity with regional regulations (e.g., EU ETS, China's emission control areas).
  • Ability to implement and audit safety management systems (SMS) for bulk carriers
  • Proven ability to manage vetting inspections (RightShip) & DBMS.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work on-call.
