Senior/Vessel Manager

Job Description - Senior/Vessel Manager

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of assigned vessels to ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective performance in line with OSM Thome procedures, international regulations (ISM, ISPS, MLC), ISO, and customer expectations.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for vessel operations, ensuring alignment between the vessel’s senior management team and shore-based support functions.
  • Monitor and follow up on class, flag, port state, and third-party inspections; ensure timely rectification of deficiencies, certification compliance, and readiness for audits.
  • Supervise crew selection, performance evaluation, and wellbeing of senior officers; support crewing decisions and maintain high standards of onboard leadership.
  • Develop and control the vessel’s annual operating budget, manage cost performance, and support procurement, invoice approvals, and insurance claims.
  • Coordinate and execute dry dockings, repairs, and vessel modifications, ensuring technical specifications, schedules, and costs meet agreed requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits, inspections (e.g. SIRE, CDI, Rightship, Charterers Inspection); pre-vetting preparations, and timely follow up of findings.
  • Support emergency response as a designated member of the crisis management team; participate in drills and coordinate incident follow-up, including risk assessment and experience transfer.
  • Ensure vessel compliance with safety, environmental, and operational KPIs; monitor risk assessments and support improvement initiatives in cooperation with technical, HSEQ, and marine departments.
  • Conduct regular vessel visits, track planned maintenance status, follow up on deficiencies, and prepare periodical operational reports for stakeholders.
  • Liaise professionally with owners, charterers, and other external parties to ensure satisfaction with vessel performance and transparency on operational issues.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Fleet Manager to support overall fleet performance and business objectives.

Qualifications & Experiences

  • Higher education, MSc/BSc within naval architecture, marine technology/engineering, or
  • Higher maritime education and experience as chief engineer or navigational officer, or similar positions as Vessel Manager/Superintendent.
  • Senior Vessel Manager: Ideally a proven track record for a minimum of 3 years in a shore-based shipping company as technical superintendent/vessel manager will have an advantage.
  • Vessel Manager: Ideally a proven track record for a minimum of 1 year in a shore-based shipping company will have an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of ISM Code, ISPS, MLC, SOLAS, MARPOL, Class and vetting requirements.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing vessel operations and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in vessel budgeting, cost control, and procurement processes.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to coordinate with owners, charterers, and internal departments.
  • Prior experience sailing on applicable vessel type will be essential for assigned fleet
