The Service Engineer is responsible for the inspection, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, overhaul, testing, commissioning, and technical support of marine propulsion systems and mechanical equipment used onboard vessels, offshore platforms, FPSOs, shipyards, and industrial facilities. The role requires extensive practical experience in marine main engine servicing, auxiliary machinery overhaul, rotating equipment maintenance, and field service activities both locally and overseas.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out inspection, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and complete overhaul of marine main propulsion diesel engines.
Perform overhaul, servicing, and commissioning of medium-speed and low-speed marine diesel engines.
Conduct maintenance and repair of auxiliary engines and diesel generator engines.
Perform dismantling, inspection, measurement, refurbishment, assembly, alignment, and commissioning of marine mechanical equipment.
Execute repair and overhaul of pumps, compressors, blowers, gearboxes, winches, cranes, hydraulic systems, and other rotating equipment.
Perform maintenance and overhaul of propulsion-related mechanical systems, including shafting, bearings, couplings, seals, and lubrication systems.
Carry out precision measurements using engineering measuring instruments and prepare dimensional inspection reports.
Diagnose mechanical failures using vibration analysis, performance testing, alignment checks, and condition monitoring techniques.
Conduct troubleshooting of engine performance issues, lubrication systems, cooling systems, fuel systems, starting air systems, and exhaust systems.
Supervise engine dismantling and reassembly during dry docking and vessel repair projects.
Minimum Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or equivalent.
Minimum 6–10 years of relevant experience in marine engine repair, mechanical equipment overhaul, or field service engineering.
Experience working onboard vessels, offshore facilities, or shipyards.
Ability to travel internationally on short notice for vessel attendance and emergency repair works.
Good communication and technical reporting skills.
Working Environment
The position involves workshop activities, onboard vessel attendance, offshore assignments, shipyard projects, and overseas travel. The engineer will frequently work during vessel dry dockings, shutdowns, emergency breakdowns, and time-critical maintenance operations while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and technical excellence.
