Job Description - Communications & Social Media Specialist

BEDOK METHODIST CHURCH (the Church) invites a dynamic and self-motivated individual to join us as a Communications and Social Media Specialist. We are seeking a professional to support church-wide campaigns, pastoral leadership updates, and ministry initiatives while creating clear, engaging content across our internal and congregation-facing platforms.

This role enhances congregation and staff engagement by simplifying complex updates, coordinating closely with various church ministries, and leveraging digital and AI-powered tools for efficient communication delivery.

This position requires working on some weekends and public holidays to support church services and major events.

SCOPE OF WORK

1.      Campaigns & Congregation Engagement

Assist in planning, coordinating, and delivering internal communication campaigns and major church milestones (e.g., Holy Week, Church Anniversary, Christmas, and Year-end Thanksgiving). This includes working with the church’s Communication Ministry to develop pre-event and post-event materials.

2.      Strategic Communications & Calendar Planning

Develop and execute a comprehensive church-wide communications strategy. Brainstorm, ideate, and manage an integrated master content calendar across all digital and print platforms (such as Instagram, Facebook, Telegram, the church website, and app) to ensure timely, consistent, and impactful messaging that aligns with upcoming sermon series and ministry milestones.

3.      Content Creation & Channel Management

Develop, write, and maintain engaging content across internal platforms, including weekly bulletins, church-wide emails, presentations, and social-style internal updates, converting ministry updates into clear, meaningful, and congregation-friendly copy.

4.      Multimedia Production & Storytelling

Assist with basic content shoots (photography and video), internal testimony captures, and broader church storytelling efforts. Produce weekly sermon highlights or video recaps to keep the community connected.

5.      Ministry Collaboration

Work closely with the Pastoral team, Church staff, and various ministries/committees to align communication timelines, coordinate content development, and ensure smooth delivery of internal announcements.

6.      Leadership & Pastoral Support

Provide communication support for weekly pulpit announcements, leadership updates from the Pastors and Local Church Executive Committee (LCEC) and other church-wide initiatives.

7.      Data & Insights

Monitor engagement data and feedback from the church app, email open rates, and digital channels to drive ongoing improvements in how the Church communicates with its members.

8.      Any other duties as assigned by the Pastor-in-Charge.

REQUIREMENTS

1.      Church Alignment: A good knowledge and understanding of Christianity and the Methodist Church in Singapore.

2.      Education: Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.

3.      Experience: At least 1 to 2 years of experience in communications, content marketing, social media management.

4.      Communication Skills: Strong English and Chinese written and verbal communication skills, with an excellent ability to craft compelling stories across digital, editorial, and social formats.

5.      Technical Proficiency:

·    Working knowledge of popular photo/video editing applications (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom, Final Cut, Canva, CapCut)

·    Proficiency in handling DSLRs/camcorders for ad-hoc event coverage.

·    Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and G-Suite.

6.      AI & Digital Savvy: Comfortable using AI tools and modern digital applications to enhance efficiency in content drafting and project coordination.

7.      Interpersonal & Project Management Skills: Great organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple internal platforms concurrently, and strong interpersonal skills to liaise with church leaders, ministries, and congregation.

8.      A portfolio of past written communication, digital designs, or video work.
