Job Description - Corporate Communications Manager

We're looking for a strategic corporate communications manager for a non-profit in the green fuels sector.

Corporate Communications Manager

The Communications Manager is responsible for public affairs, media relations and general communications matters. S/He serves as the principal staff officer for managing the public affairs, media relations and communication efforts for the Organisation and the green fuels industry. The Communications Manager develops/presents effective and compelling messages on the benefits of ether to various government bodies, oil companies, NGOs, international agencies, other stakeholders and the general public. The position reports to the Managing Director.

Duties of the Communications Manager

  • Serves as strategic corporate communicator internally (members) and externally on matters relating to overarching messaging on sustainability, corporate developments, and related issues.
  • Establishes and maintains an effective network of contacts within the media, relevant business sectors and community groups to effectively position the organization among its key constituents.
  • Recommends and implements the organization’s and green fuels industry’s corporate public relations strategy and establishes a media/public outreach programme for all public and private stakeholders relevant to the organization.
  • Plans and implements the organization’s participation in conferences, trade shows and industry exhibitions.
  • Develops and maintains an effective, engaging, updated and active organization website, LinkedIn accounts and Managing Director’s LinkedIn.
  • Supports the Managing Director in developing and preparing corporate presentations and speeches for conferences and events.
  • Produces regular monthly and timely corporate newsletters and monthly activity reports to members and external audiences.
  • Develops and implements effective communications tools as required by the organization and its members from time to time.
  • Implements proactive actions to advance the use of green fuels through building coalitions with other industry players, citizen/societal/international groups to promote environmental interests.
  • Travels within the region to represent the organization.

Communication Strategies and Programs

  • Evaluate communication gaps and needs at the industry and organizational levels.
  • Identify, lead the development, implementation and management of communication policies and programmes that ensure the organization is known, understood and positively regarded by its various external communities and stakeholders. This includes developing new communication angles and key messaging for existing markets/countries, and developing communication platforms/tools to execute agreed communication strategies.
  • Formulate the organization’s and green fuels industry’s public relations strategy.
  • Establish outreach programmes for all public and private stakeholders relevant to the organization.
  • Conceptualise, develop and implement communications programmes and initiatives (such as technical workshops and industry conferences) to educate, advocate and engage stakeholders on clean fuels related issues.
  • Propose and contribute to the development of long-term communication strategies and short-term tactics to achieve the organization’s goals and objectives. This requires a deep understanding of the industry and strong foresight regarding industry trends and developments, including alternative energy trends within the green fuels industry.

Positioning and Key Messages

  • Identify target audiences and suitable communication channels/platforms.
  • Develop targeted key messages for each market and corresponding constituents.
  • Develop and draft materials in support of the organization’s internal and external communication efforts.
  • Maintain consistency in messaging across markets and platforms.
  • Play a pivotal role in the development of content supporting outbound engagements and communications such as press releases, infographics, presentations, blogs, briefing documents, social media and videos.

Executive support and management

  • Contribute to and support the Managing Director, members, country clusters and partners in strategic deliberations.
  • Work closely with the Partnership & Programs Manager and Industry & External Affairs Manager on overlapping responsibilities and activities.
  • Develop materials and prepare meeting minutes for board and committee meetings.
  • Conduct market research to support the organization’s internal and external communication efforts.
  • Execute tasks as requested by the Managing Director as part of the organization’s operations.
  • Oversee the role and responsibilities of the Digital Designer & MEMA Coordinator.

Advocacy

  • Travel within the region to represent the organization in speaking engagements and meetings with regulators, policymakers and industry contacts/partners to communicate the organization’s mission, mandate and key messages.
  • Develop and draft media contribution articles for media platforms.

Partnership Development

  • Advance the use of green fuels through building coalitions with stakeholders including peer organizations, international partners and media.
  • Develop and implement collaborative efforts with peer organizations and media partners, and manage relationships to promote long-term collaboration.
  • Establish and maintain an effective network of contacts within relevant business sectors, community groups and the media to effectively position the organization among its key constituents.

Membership Development and Support

  • Support the Managing Director in member communications.
  • Develop membership marketing and communications materials.

Corporate Branding

  • Guardian of the organization’s brand.
  • Develop and maintain an effective, updated and active organization newsletter and website.
  • Plan and implement the organization’s participation in conferences, trade shows and industry exhibitions.
  • Develop and implement effective communications tools as required by the organization and its members from time to time.
  • Manage relationships with creative and editorial partners to ensure top quality work.
