Animal Welfare Inspector (Valid Class 3/3A driving license)

The Inspector plays a crucial role in animal protection in Singapore. He/She is responsible for responding to public feedback on animal cruelty, welfare and neglect, inspection of animal related establishments, conducting post-adoption checks. The Inspector is also involved in policy implementation and animal welfare advocacy research, highlighting rising trends and key animal welfare issues to the Executive Director.

The responsibilities include and are not limited to:

• Attending to feedback provided by members of the public via SPCA’s 24-hour hotline or social media accounts about potential animal cruelty, compromised welfare and neglect cases.
• Monitoring social media platforms, news platforms and forums to sieve out any cases of concerns.
• Conducting thorough investigations and escalate verified cases according to severity.
• Working closely with authorities to follow up on cases requiring enforcement actions or appeals for higher penalties.
• Providing timely reports to the Operations Director and Executive Director about cases.
• Escalating and highlighting urgent or serious cases in a timely manner.
• Conducting unannounced checks and audits of animal establishments (e.g pet shops, breeders, trainers) to ensure animal welfare standards are not compromised.
• Conducting pre and post adoption house checks.
• Supporting undercover investigations where necessary.
• Providing advice and guidance to pet owners and other stakeholders on proper care and treatment for animals.
• Assisting with research and keeping abreast of any trends of concern relating to animal welfare.
• Working closely with other departments to lobby for changes in animal laws where necessary.
• Supporting Community Engagement Office for advocacy campaigns and public outreach efforts.
• Ensuring Inspectorate vehicle is well-maintained.

Others

• Provision of support for ad-hoc events and SPCA-led projects.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Education: Minimum of diploma
• Excellent communication skills and fluency in written and spoken English.
• Passion for animal welfare.
• Meticulous and detail oriented.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to mediate in challenging situations.
• Valid Class 3/3A driving license.
• Experience in handling/working with animals is an added advantage but not compulsory.
• Experience in investigative work is an added advantage but not compulsory
