We are seeking a Legal Counsel to support the Antom business at Ant International - a business unit focused on payment processing and related merchant services. In this role, you will work closely with business and cross-functional stakeholders to:
1. Assess regulatory aspects of new structures, projects, and jurisdictions.
2. Review, draft, and negotiate contracts.
3. Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable laws.
The ideal candidate has a background in financial, commercial and/or regulatory matters, excels in communication and problem-solving, and thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. You should be proactive, adaptable, and capable of handling complex legal challenges that enable innovative business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and support the business in structuring new products, expanding into new jurisdictions, and developing innovative business plans from a legal and regulatory perspective.
- Provide clear, practical legal advice on proposed products and features to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements while meeting market needs.
- Review, draft, and negotiate contracts related to merchant acquisition and payment services - including merchant agreements, payment channel agreements, SaaS agreements, marketing agreements, and other legal contracts.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Business Development, Marketing, Operations, Risk, Finance) to ensure legal frameworks align with company objectives and policies.
- Conduct legal research and provide regulatory advice on acquiring and merchant service-related matters.
- Stay abreast of regulatory and legal developments in payment services and financial services, providing timely updates and guidance to business teams.
- Some travel within China or other locations may be required.

- Bachelor's degree (or Juris Doctor) in Law.
- Qualified to practice law in a common law jurisdiction, with 6-10 years of post-qualification experience in financial institutions, reputable law firms, or multinational companies.
- Strong understanding of contract law, payments regulations, and related legal principles. (Experience in e-commerce, payments, finance, or technology industries is highly preferred.)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to draft and negotiate contracts in Chinese (Mandarin) for internal communications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; attention to detail and sound business judgment to balance legal risks with commercial goals.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in fast-moving environments.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
