Job Description - Art Gallery Curator

Prestige Arts Pte. Ltd. is seeking a highly motivated and knowledgeable Art Gallery Curator to lead the gallery's curatorial research, exhibition development, and collection interpretation. The ideal candidate possesses strong academic knowledge in art history and cultural management, with demonstrated experience in artwork research, curatorial practice, exhibition planning, and publication development.

The successful candidate will contribute to strengthening the gallery's reputation through scholarly research, thoughtfully curated exhibitions, and meaningful engagement with artists, collectors, and the wider arts community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth research on artworks, artists, artistic movements, historical contexts, and cultural heritage to support the gallery's exhibitions, acquisitions, and curatorial initiatives.
  • Develop curatorial concepts and exhibition narratives that present artworks within meaningful historical, cultural, and contemporary contexts.
  • Prepare exhibition catalogues, artist monographs, gallery publications, curatorial essays, educational materials, and interpretative content for exhibitions and public programmes.
  • Perform provenance research and artwork documentation by reviewing historical records, archival materials, academic references, and authentication sources.
  • Evaluate artworks and artists through scholarly research to support acquisitions, collection development, and exhibition planning.
  • Coordinate with artists, collectors, museums, cultural institutions, auction houses, and industry professionals regarding exhibitions, loans, acquisitions, and collaborative projects.
  • Assist in planning, organising, and executing exhibitions, including artwork selection, exhibition layout, installation coordination, and interpretive presentation.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of artworks, collections, provenance documentation, research findings, and exhibition archives in accordance with professional gallery standards.
  • Conduct market and industry research to identify emerging artists, contemporary art trends, and opportunities to expand the gallery's curatorial programmes and collections.
  • Represent the gallery during exhibitions, art fairs, client presentations, artist engagements, and cultural events while providing professional insights on artworks and their historical significance.
  • Support the gallery's branding and public outreach by contributing research-based content for digital platforms, publications, educational programmes, and marketing initiatives.
  • Stay abreast of developments in art history, museum studies, contemporary art, and international gallery practices to continuously enhance the gallery's curatorial excellence.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Art History, Fine Arts, Cultural Management, Museum Studies, Curatorial Practice, or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years of collective professional experience in art curation, gallery or museum operations, exhibition management, artwork research, or cultural institutions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of art history, exhibition development, curatorial methodologies, artwork provenance research, and collection management.
  • Experience in developing exhibition catalogues, curatorial publications, educational materials, scholarly research, or editorial content will be highly advantageous.
  • Strong research, analytical, writing, presentation, and project management skills with the ability to communicate complex artistic concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Experience working collaboratively with artists, collectors, museums, galleries, academic institutions, or cultural organisations in local or international settings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign). Experience with collection management systems, digital archives, or exhibition database software will be an advantage.
  • Ability to manage multiple exhibitions, research projects, and publication timelines simultaneously while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
  • Fluency in English and an additional language to conduct research, prepare bilingual curatorial materials, and liaise with international artists, collectors, institutions, and clients across Asia and other global markets.
