Job Description - Assistant Director, Cybersecurity (Contract Role)

As the Assistant Director of Cybersecurity for World Aquatics Championships 2025, your main responsibility will be to oversee the cybersecurity measures and protocols, develop risk management plan as well as operation management for the event.  You will play a crucial role in ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data and information systems. Overall, as the Assistant Director of Cybersecurity, you will play a critical role in safeguarding the organization's data, systems, and infrastructure against cyber threats during the World Aquatics Championships 2025. Your expertise in cybersecurity strategy, risk management, incident response, and compliance will be essential in ensuring the smooth and secure operation of the event. 

 

Job Responsibilities: 

In this role, You will,

1. Overview

  • Develop and implement comprehensive cybersecurity strategies and measures to protect event systems and data from cyber threats, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive information. 
  • Oversee the coordination and implementation of cybersecurity solutions, including threat detection, incident response, and security protocols to safeguard event operations and data. 
  • Work closely with technology partners, vendors, and service providers to ensure the successful implementation and operation of cybersecurity and operational solutions for the event. 

2. Risk Assessment and Management

  • Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate potential cybersecurity and operational disruptions and ensure the reliability and stability of technology systems during the event. 
  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and potential security breaches.

3. Security Policies and Procedures

  • Develop and enforce cybersecurity policies and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

4. Incident Response and Recovery

  • Establish and lead a cybersecurity incident response team to promptly detect, investigate, and respond to security incidents and breaches.

5. Security Monitoring and Threat Intelligence

  • Implement and manage a security information and event management (SIEM) system to monitor network traffic, detect anomalies and potential threats.

6. Security Awareness Training

  • Develop and implement cybersecurity awareness training programs to educate event staff, volunteers, and participants about cybersecurity risks, phishing attempts, social engineering techniques, and other potential threats.

7. Vendor and Third-Party Risk Management

  • Assess and manage cybersecurity risks associated with external vendors and third-party contractors.

8. Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery

  • Collaborate with the IT Infrastructure team to develop and maintain business continuity plans and disaster recovery procedures.

9. Incident Reporting and Documentation 

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of security incidents, including their impact, investigation findings, and remediation steps taken.

In addition, an ideal candidate should possess the following:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in cybersecurity management, preferably in sports or large-scale events, along with 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Diploma, Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Cyber Security, or a related field.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong ability to write and engage with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment under minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with the aquatic sports industry is an advantage.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours and travel as needed during the event, including weekends and holidays.
  • Other ad-hoc tasks as and when directed by Project Director.
