Assistant Director (Quantity Surveyor)

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Director (Quantity Surveying) to lead the successful delivery of multiple construction projects from inception through completion. The successful candidate will oversee commercial and contractual functions, manage and develop a team of quantity surveyors, and contribute to business development while ensuring projects are delivered to the highest quality and commercial standards.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Commercial Leadership

• Lead the delivery of multiple projects across various sectors, ensuring successful execution from project initiation through completion.

• Oversee feasibility studies, cost planning, procurement strategies, and post-contract quantity surveying services.

• Prepare, review, and validate detailed cost estimates, cost plans, and commercial reports.

• Manage the full tendering process, including tender documentation, tender evaluation, pricing analysis, benchmarking, and recommendation reports.

• Provide commercial and contractual guidance throughout the project lifecycle.

• Oversee variation orders, progress claims, change management, and final account negotiations.

• Monitor commercial risks and ensure compliance with contractual obligations and project quality standards.

Team Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Quantity Surveyors, providing guidance, coaching, and performance management.

• Allocate resources and manage team workload across multiple concurrent projects.

• Foster a collaborative and high-performing working environment while supporting staff development and continuous learning.

• Promote knowledge sharing, best practices, and continuous improvement within the quantity surveying team.

Client & Business Development

• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders.

• Support business development activities by identifying new project opportunities and expanding existing client relationships.

• Contribute to securing new projects and maintaining a sustainable project pipeline.

• Represent the company professionally during client meetings and industry engagements where required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying, Building, or a related discipline.

• Minimum 7 years of relevant quantity surveying experience, preferably within a consultancy environment, with experience at Senior Quantity Surveyor or Associate level.

• Demonstrated experience leading multiple projects and managing a team of Quantity Surveyors.

• Strong knowledge of cost management, contract administration, procurement, and commercial management practices.

• Accredited Professional Quantity Surveyor and/or SISV membership will be an advantage.

• Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills.

• Able to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• Mandarin communication skills are preferred to facilitate effective communication with Mandarin-speaking clients, consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders where required.
