Job Description - Assistant Operations Manager

You will work closely with Operations, Procurement, Logistics and Customer Service teams to ensure production schedules are executed effectively while maintaining food safety, quality and productivity standards. As the company continues to grow, you will play an important role in strengthening production capabilities, developing team performance and supporting operational excellence. Responsibilities

Production Operations

  • Assist the Operations Manager in overseeing daily production operations to ensure production targets, quality standards and delivery schedules are achieved.
  • Coordinate and monitor daily production activities, ensuring efficient utilization of manpower, equipment and materials.
  • Supervise production personnel and provide guidance to ensure smooth workflow and operational discipline.
  • Monitor production output, productivity, wastage and downtime, escalating issues where necessary.
  • Support production planning and scheduling activities to meet customer demand and operational requirements.

Quality, Food Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with GMP, HACCP, food safety regulations and company quality standards.
  • Conduct routine checks on production processes, hygiene practices and operational controls.
  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to investigate production and quality issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure proper documentation and record keeping of production, quality and food safety records.

Inventory & Material Coordination

  • Coordinate with Procurement and Warehouse teams to ensure timely availability of raw materials, packaging materials and production supplies.
  • Monitor material usage and report shortages, discrepancies or wastage.
  • Support inventory control activities and stock reconciliation related to production operations.

Process Improvement

  • Assist in reviewing and improving production processes, SOPs and work instructions to enhance productivity and efficiency.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and recommend process improvements.
  • Support implementation of continuous improvement initiatives, automation projects and operational enhancement programs.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for production-related issues.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise, coach and support production supervisors, team leaders and operators.
  • Assist with manpower planning, staff scheduling and workforce allocation.
  • Conduct on-the-job training and ensure employees are competent in operational procedures and food safety requirements.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, safety and continuous improvement.

Equipment &Facilities

  • Coordinate with the Maintenance team to ensure equipment is properly maintained and production downtime is minimized.
  • Monitor equipment performance and report maintenance requirements promptly.
  • Ensure production facilities are maintained in a clean, organized and safe condition.

Workplace Safety

  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and promote safe work practices on the production floor.
  • Participate in safety initiatives, incident investigations and corrective action implementation.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations Management or a related discipline.
  • Minimum3–5 years of experience in food production, manufacturing or operations, preferably within the FMCG or food industry.
  • At least 1–2 years of supervisory experience leading production teams.
  • Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, food safety regulations and manufacturing best practices.
  • Experience in production planning, manpower coordination and process improvement initiatives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and ERP or production management systems.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
  • Hands-on, proactive and able to thrive in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Willing to work on the production floor and lead by example.
