Legal and Compliance Department

We govern, structure, negotiate and execute the largest and most complex deals globally, across all asset classes. 

What impact can you make in this role?

You will be part of a team that manages the legal, regulatory, compliance, and reputational risks of GIC, and partner with the business to ensure that legal and regulatory issues and risks are identified, assessed and dealt with in a timely and efficient manner.

We are looking for a highly motivated, high-calibre Corporate/M&A lawyer to join our Legal Division as an AVP/VP, to partner with investment professionals in the GIC Real Estate (RE) group in their investment activities. You will be empowered to structure, negotiate, review, draft and prepare legal documentation for our investment and corporate activities.

What will you do as an AVP/VP, Legal Counsel (Real Estate)?

• Identify key legal and reputational risks in transactions arising from investment activities, recommend and implement solutions.


• Liaise and consult with top international and local law firms on a variety of legal matters to support investment activities, with a view to delivering superior services on a cost-effective basis.


• Value add when managing the transaction process of investments and reviewing the associated contracts.


• Contribute and promote teamwork and collaboration among the LCD team.


• Participate in or contribute to GIC-wide initiatives and projects as needed on a global basis.

What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role? 

• A law degree with strong academic results from a good university, with at least 5 years' post-qualification experience as a Corporate/M&A lawyer (whether in private practice or in-house). Relevant pan-Asian M&A experience will be an advantage.


• An analytical mind, intellectual curiosity, and good knowledge of commercial laws, with the ability to identify legal risks in the context of the business's interest.


• The courage to raise concerns and act when something looks amiss — comfortable challenging the status quo, asking difficult questions, and owning an issue end-to-end until it is resolved.


• A healthy dose of professional skepticism — the judgment to question assumptions, verify before relying, and stay alert to what is unsaid or misrepresented, while remaining commercially pragmatic.


• Strong negotiating, communication, and interpersonal skills, to represent GIC effectively with counterparties and internal stakeholders.


• Adaptability and resourcefulness, with the ability to multitask within tight timelines and to work both independently and as part of a team, with drive and a strong desire to succeed.


• An openness to overseas work stints when business needs arise.
