Job Description - Business Unit General Manager, APAC (Singapore)



Our client is part of a global engineering and infrastructure group and provides engineering, construction, industrial services, and maintenance solutions to customers across the industrial, commercial, and infrastructure sectors. 







The Business Unit General Manager is responsible for the overall management, performance, and growth of the Business Unit.



Working closely with the leadership team, the BU GM develops and executes the Business Unit's strategic plan, drives commercial growth, ensures operational excellence, develops talent, and manages the resources required for sustainable business success.







Key Responsibilities



The BU GM leads the Business Unit across six key areas: Strategy & VisionHealth, Safety & Well-beingEnvironment & SustainabilityTeam Leadership & Talent DevelopmentMarketing & Business DevelopmentBusiness Administration & Risk Management







1. Strategy & Vision



  • Develop and execute the Business Unit's 3–5 year strategic plan.

  • Ensure alignment between Business Unit objectives and broader regional priorities.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, partners, and key stakeholders.

  • Identify and pursue sustainable business growth opportunities.

  • Develop long-term business plans and associated action roadmaps.

  • Drive accountability and execution of strategic and operational initiatives throughout the Business Unit.



2. Health, Safety & Well-being



  • Foster and maintain a strong safety culture throughout the Business Unit.

  • Drive continuous improvement in workplace health and safety performance.

  • Promote a culture focused on achieving zero accidents and occupational illnesses.

  • Ensure safety objectives and expectations are understood across the organization.

  • Promote organizational learning and continuous improvement for accident prevention.

  • Ensure leaders actively demonstrate and reinforce safety leadership.Promote employee well-being and quality of work life.



3. Environment & Sustainability



  • Develop and implement compliance, sustainability, and environmental strategies.

  • Build and execute environmental and sustainability roadmaps aligned with business objectives.

  • Develop the Business Unit's capability and reputation as a responsible industry leader.

  • Engage customers, suppliers, contractors, and communities on sustainability initiatives.

  • Drive accountability for environmental, social, ethical, and governance practices.

  • Monitor environmental performance and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards.



4- Team Leadership & HR Development



  • Motivate and engage employees around the Business Unit's vision and objectives.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop talent through structured development programs.

  • Promote a culture of integrity, accountability, collaboration, and ethical conduct.

  • Recruit and retain talent required to support business growth.

  • Foster diversity, inclusion, and employee engagement.

  • Maintain positive employee relations and constructive workplace dialogue.

  • Develop succession plans and leadership pipelines.

  • Conduct performance reviews and workforce planning activities.



5. Marketing & Business Development



  • Develop commercial strategies aligned with business objectives and growth plans.

  • Expand and strengthen the Business Unit's customer base.

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities and market segments.

  • Drive customer acquisition and revenue growth.

  • Support the development of new products, services, and solutions.

  • Ensure adequate resources are available to meet customer commitments and project requirements.

  • Collaborate with regional and global teams to maximize growth opportunities.

  • Oversee sales forecasting, pipeline management, and tendering activities.



6. Business Administration & Risk Management



  • Lead the annual budgeting and business planning process.

  • Monitor financial performance against budget and forecasts.

  • Ensure compliance with corporate governance, financial controls, and management policies.

  • Review technical, commercial, and financial proposals.

  • Ensure effective project selection, resource allocation, and workload planning.

  • Oversee project management and contract administration processes.

  • Review business performance dashboards and key operational metrics.

  • Analyze revenue, profitability, cash flow, and business performance trends.

  • Manage forecasting, financial reviews, and reforecasting activities.

  • Maintain effective internal controls and risk management processes.
