Overview
The Child Life Therapist is required to participate in patient care based on therapeutic, expressive modalities within the Khoo Teck Puat – National University Children’s Medical Institute (KTP-NUCMI). The Child Life Therapist works with inpatients and outpatients to provide hospital-based support through play and other expressive modalities.
Job Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities and Duties (80%)
- To plan, implement and evaluate individualized or group treatment plans for inpatients and outpatients, based on therapeutic, expressive approaches/ techniques.
- To accurately document treatment plans and session notes, and/or other reports, related to individual patients or group participants.
- To contribute, as part of a multidisciplinary team, in the overall care plan for the patient.
- Assist in organizing and managing special events, support groups, volunteers and other regularly scheduled activities.
Secondary Responsibilities and Duties (20%)
- To assist in the development of materials for teaching and training.
- Provide in-service training for department staff.
- Assist senior team members in the provision of specialized teaching and supervision of interns.
- To contribute to team level operational tasks, as well as participate in research projects as a member of the research team.
Requirements
- Professional qualification in child life therapy, and at least a bachelor’s degree in a child development related field, such as psychology, counselling, early childhood, or special education, from an accredited university.
- Registered or eligible for registration with a recognized child life professional body.
- Knowledge of treatment using therapeutic, expressive modalities within a paediatric setting.
- A team player who is motivated to provide a high standard of patient care and also able to work independently.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to speak a second language is preferred.
