The Executive Chairman will provide strategic leadership, financial oversight, and commercial direction to ensure the company's long-term viability, market expansion, and operational excellence. Distinct from a purely non-executive governance role, the Chairman will actively leverage their deep industry network to secure premium iron ore supply chains, lead high-stakes contract negotiations, and exercise strict financial controls over volatile trading margins and liquidity lines.
1. Sourcing & Supply Chain Strategy
Global Origination: Identify, evaluate, and establish strategic alliances with major global miners, junior mining companies, and tier-one producers of iron ore.
Geopolitical Risk Management: Diversify sourcing portfolios across multiple geographies (e.g., Australia, Brazil, South Africa, India).
Quality Assurance: Collaborate with technical and trade operations teams to ensure sourced iron ore grades match the strict specifications of international steel mills.
2. High-Stakes Contract Negotiation
Commercial Structuring: Lead negotiations for long-term Offtake Agreements, spot contracts, and joint-venture trading structures with global steel producers and mining houses.
Pricing Mechanics: Structure complex pricing matrices to optimize hedging mechanisms, freight adjustments, and volume options.
Dispute Resolution: Act as the final point of escalation for high-value contractual disputes, quality claims, or force majeure events to protect the company’s capital and reputation.
3. Financial Control & Risk Management
Capital Allocation & Liquidity: Oversee the company’s capital structure, ensuring robust access to Trade Finance facilities, structured commodity finance, Letters of Credit (LCs), and working capital lines.
Risk Mitigation Oversight: Enforce stringent Risk Management Frameworks covering credit risk, counterparty risk, foreign exchange (FX) volatility, and freight/shipping risk.
Margin & Cost Control: Review annual budgets, audit reports, and P&L statements to ensure trading margins are protected against market downward swings and rising logistics costs.
Experience: A minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in international commodities trading, with a proven track record specifically in iron ore and steel markets.
Network: An active, Rolodex-level network of senior executives within major global mining conglomerates, international steel mills, freight/shipping houses, and tier-one commodity banks.
Financial Acumen: Deep understanding of structured trade finance, derivatives, hedging strategy, and macro-economics impacting the steel value chain.
Education: Master’s degree in Economics, International Trade, Finance, Metallurgy, or Mining Engineering is highly preferred.
Core Competencies: Exceptional diplomatic and negotiation skills, commanding presence, cross-cultural competence, and decisive crisis management.
