Job Description - Chemist

We are seeking a highly motivated Chemist / Process Engineer (NCG) with a strong academic background in chemistry and materials science to support materials and thin\u2011film process development for next\u2011generation semiconductor technologies. This role offers hands\u2011on exposure to advanced deposition processes and strong growth opportunities in both materials and process engineering.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n * Devise precursor and deposition strategies and associated intellectual property. Design and develop new precursors and chemical processes to find new innovative ways to create, remove or clean thin films for next generation semiconductor.\n\n * Design, execution, and optimization of thin\u2011film deposition processes, including CVD-, ALD-, and PVD-based technologies, under guidance from senior engineers and scientists.\n\n * Perform thin\u2011film growth or deposition experiments and support early-stage process \u0026 material development, characterization, and optimization.\n\n * Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental and process data; document results to support development decisions.\n\n * Prepare and execute project deliverables from planning to implementation. Prioritize the activities to achieve on-time and within budget performance objectives for the project. \n\n * Trouble shoot for root causes to project developments obstacles and engage business unit and broader team members implementing proposed solutions to the problems.\n\n\n\n\nFunctional Knowledge\n\n * Foundational knowledge \u0026 working experience in thin\u2011film deposition techniques such as CVD, ALD, MOCVD, PECVD, and/or PVD (e.g., sputtering).\n\n * Experience on thin\u2011film and surface characterization techniques (e.g., XPS, AFM, SEM, TEM, ellipsometry, SIMS, AFM, XRD).\n\n * Experience with electrochemistry or plating processes is a plus, including electroplating, electroless plating, additive chemistry, electrochemical characterization, batteries, and related film characterization.\n\n * Experience or academic exposure to 2D materials (e.g., graphene, TMDs) growth, characterization, device or integration is a plus.\n\n * Basic understanding of vacuum systems, plasma processes, and thin\u2011film tool operation, with willingness to learn hardware and process troubleshooting.\n\n * Solid fundamentals in chemistry, materials science, and chemical reactions at material interfaces.\n\n\n\n\nBusiness Expertise\n\n * Basic understanding of how chemical and process development supports product performance, manufacturability, and customer requirements.\n\n * Willingness to learn semiconductor industry practices and how development efforts transition toward scalable processes.\n\n\n\n\nCollaboration \u0026 Learning\n\n * Works effectively within multidisciplinary teams of chemists, process engineers, and tool owners.\n\n * Demonstrates strong learning agility, openness to feedback, and increasing technical independence.\n\n\n\n\nProblem Solving\n\n * Applies structured thinking to solve routine technical and process problems with guidance.\n\n * Shows curiosity and initiative in translating chemical understanding into process improvements.\n\n\n\n\nImpact\n\n * Impacts a range of customer, operational, project or service activities within own team and other related teams; works within broad guidelines and policies\n\n\n\n\nInterpersonal Skills\n\n * Communicates experimental results and process observations clearly through technical reports and discussions.\n\n * Collaborates effectively across functions.\n\n\n\n\nEducation: Doctor\u0027s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Physics\n\nWork Location: Applied Materials - NUS Corporate Lab (NUS E6 building)\n\n## Qualifications\n\n### Education:\n\nBachelor\u0027s Degree\n\n### Skills\n\n### Certifications:\n\n### Languages:\n\n### Years of Experience:\n\n2 - 4 Years\n\n### Work Experience:\n\n## Additional Information\n\n### \n\n### Shift:\n\nDay (Singapore)\n\n### \n\n### Travel:\n\nYes, 10% of the Time\n\n### \n\n### Relocation Eligible:\n\nYes\n\n### Referral Payment Plan:\n\nEmployee Referral (Enhanced)\n\nApplied Materials is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to diversity in the workplace.
