Job Summary:
The CNC Machinist is responsible for the setup, programming, and operation of CNC vertical lathes and horizontal borers to produce precision components. The machinist will interpret technical drawings, program machines using G-code or CAM software, and ensure the highest standards of quality and efficiency in the machining process.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Technical Drawing Interpretation:
• Able to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering specifications.
• Understand geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T) to ensure parts meet exact specifications.
2. Machine Operation:
• Operate CNC vertical lathes and horizontal borers to produce metal parts.
• Perform machine setups including the installation of jigs, fixtures, and tooling.
• Ensure machines are properly calibrated and aligned for optimal performance.
3. Programming:
• Program CNC machines using G-code or CAM software to create parts according to specifications.
• Adjust programs as necessary to improve machining processes and ensure quality.
4. Setup and Tooling:
• Set up and prepare machines for the machining process, including selecting appropriate tools and fixtures.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues with machine setups to maintain productivity.
5. Quality Control:
• Conduct in-process measurements using precision instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges) to verify part dimensions.
• Ensure all parts meet or exceed quality standards and specifications.
6. Efficiency:
• Optimize machine setup and run times to increase productivity.
• Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to improve efficiency and reduce downtime.
7. Work Area Maintenance:
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring all tools and materials are stored properly.
• Perform routine machine maintenance and report any issues to the maintenance department.
8. Safety and Compliance:
• Adhere to all company safety protocols and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations.
Qualifications:
1. Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in CNC machining preferred.
2. Experience:
• Minimum of 3 years of experience operating CNC vertical lathes and/or horizontal borers.
• Proven experience in CNC programming using G-code and CAM software. Strong understanding of machining principles and techniques.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to use precision measuring instruments accurately.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
