ORGANISATION PROFILE
Assumption Pathway School, an institution started in 2009, is a joint education initiative by the Ministry of Education, Institute of Technical Education and St Gabriel's Foundation to serve the needs of students unable to access mainstream secondary education.
BROAD FUNCTIONS
As a Culinary Skills Teacher, you will be an important member of the school’s vocational culinary skills team and will be responsible for the values and skills education of students through effective role-modelling, teaching and administration.
In line with school direction, you may be involved in various corporate development plans to grow the school’s training infrastructure: contributing to a team effort to establish authentic, real-world platforms for teaching, learning and on-the-job training.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Department
- Develop and customise culinary pedagogy and curriculum, together with corresponding teaching and learning materials (ITE Skills Certificate [ISC] and Workforce Skills Qualification [WSQ]).
- Set and conduct curriculum assessments (ISC and WSQ).
- Be responsible for the maintenance, housekeeping and enhancement of department workshops / kitchens and on-the-job training (OJT) facilities.
Teaching
- Role-model, mentor and coach students.
- Teach, develop and evaluate student competencies towards the attainment of ISC in Hospitality Services and Culinary Skills:
- Food Preparation
- Essentials of Kitchen Practice
- Western Culinary Fundamentals
- Local Cuisine
- Regional Cuisine
- Teach character and citizenship: developing critical core skills and inculcating values that are necessary for success in the workplace and in life.
- Take on form-teachership duties to manage, mentor and support a class of students.
Other Duties
- Contribute to a team of teachers and vendors to engage and develop students through co-curricular activities (CCA)
- Contribute to a committee tasked to oversee and support key functions in the school
JOB SPECIFICATION
- Passionate and motivated to engage, educate and inspire youth (ages 13 – 21) from disadvantaged and at-risk backgrounds.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant info-com technology.
- Minimum 3 years of work experience in culinary operations.
- Experience in education and training would be in advantage.
- Experience and competencies in digital pedagogy and other supporting technologies would be an advantage.
- Minimum GCE A-Level or Diploma (relevant qualifications in culinary operations would be an advantage).
- No prior pedagogical qualifications required (relevant teaching qualifications would be an advantage).
