WHAT YOU’LL DO
As a Data Center Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining and optimising our APAC data center and exchange colocation environments. Based in Singapore, you will support local and regional data centre operations, as well as working with remote technicians to support data centres across APAC. You will have the opportunity to combine your knowledge in IT Infrastructure with a problem-solving mindset to solve business issues and independently work on improvement opportunities. You will be working on projects of all sizes, either as a resource or leading engineer, delivering from conception through to completion in this hands-on, high-impact role. Specifically, your responsibilities include:
Installing and cabling switches, servers, and appliances in our local data centre locations
Facilitating installation of servers and network equipment with smart hands across the region
Managing power and space including monitoring and capacity planning
Maintaining a consistent and clean cable management philosophy
Managing spare parts and cabling inventory
Performing break-fix repairs, replacing components like hard drives, memory and transceivers
Planning and executing data center build-outs, equipment relocations, and new colocation deployments
Getting equipment to and from remote co-locations including packing/shipping
Maintaining data centre documentation
Working hours will involve a mixture of core business hours for planning, coordination, and monitoring, with weekend and out-of-hours work for physical infrastructure changes (with time off in lieu). Most work will be performed within Singapore, with occasional travel to other APAC sites as required.
WHO YOU ARE
Technical Skills:
Experience working in modern, large-scale data centers
Ability to identify basic parts of network equipment (SFPs, line cards, chassis) and servers (memory, network cards, hard drives)
Knowledge of structured cabling systems (Cat 5, Cat 6, multi-mode, and single-mode fiber)
Familiarity with power and communications cabling standards
Experience with cable testers to troubleshoot both fiber and copper cabling issues
An understanding of change control processes
Basic server operating system installation and configuration skills
Strong documentation skills and a meticulous approach to tracking details
Non-Technical Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Creative problem-solving mindset, bringing new ideas to improve data center operations
Experience leading or coordinating resources in infrastructure projects, from conception to completion
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in fast-paced environments
Ability to lift up to 30kg
Willingness to work flexible hours outside of regular business hours, including weekends, to execute physical infrastructure changes
Willingness to travel to support regional data center operations.
