Job Description - Deputy General Manager

Job Description

Drive trading, business development, and project initiatives in the ferrous and non-ferrous resources sector across the Asia-Pacific region. This role emphasizes expanding commodity flows, originating and managing projects, and building sustainable business platforms through close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

■ Key Responsibilities

1. Trading & Supply Chain Development

Execute and expand trading and logistics activities across key bulk commodities including iron ore, metallurgical coal, steel scrap, DRI, pig iron, and ferroalloys.

Develop and implement sustainable trading structures, including recurring and scheme-based trading models.

Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, buyers, and industry stakeholders across the value chain.

Identify new counterparties and commercial opportunities through active market engagement.

2. Project Development

Originate and develop mid- to long-term business opportunities by leveraging trading activities and market insights.

Identify potential project partners and investment opportunities across the value chain.

Structure and advance new business concepts (0→1), including supply chain optimization, new materials flows, and strategic partnerships.

Drive initiatives aligned with industry megatrends such as decarbonization, recycling, and digital transformation.

3. Project Management & Execution

Lead or support execution of commercial and investment projects from structuring to implementation.

Coordinate internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure timely progress and alignment.

Monitor project performance, manage risks, and ensure commercial viability throughout the project lifecycle.

Contribute to the development of scalable and repeatable business models.

4. Market Analysis & Strategy Contribution

Conduct market and industry analysis, including supply-demand dynamics, price trends, and macroeconomic factors.

Support development of product strategies and business portfolio management.

Provide market insights to support strategic decision-making.

5. Cross-functional Coordination

Collaborate with internal teams and external partners across regions and business domains.

Support development of integrated business initiatives across upstream and downstream value chains.

6. Business Management & Governance Support

Contribute to management and improvement of existing business portfolios and projects.

Support governance, performance monitoring, and operational discipline.

Ensure commercially sound decision-making with balanced risk-return perspective.

7. Team Support & Capability Development

Mentor and support junior members in trading and project development activities.

Contribute to capability development in areas such as trading, project execution, and market analysis.

Job Requirements

- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in metals, mining, trading, or related industries, with practical exposure to ferrous and/or non-ferrous commodities

- Proven experience in trading and supply chain management, including hands-on involvement in structuring and execution of import/export transactions

- Demonstrated ability in business development and project origination, including identifying opportunities and driving initiatives from concept to execution (0→1 capability)

- Strong understanding of global commodity markets, including supply-demand dynamics, pricing mechanisms, and key industry drivers

- Experience in managing and growing trading or business portfolios, with focus on building stable and sustainable revenue streams

- Solid stakeholder management capability, with experience in building and maintaining relationships with suppliers, customers, and business partners across the value chain

- Ability to coordinate across functions and regions, working effectively in a multinational and cross-cultural business environment

- Practical knowledge of investment, financing, or project-related activities is preferred

- Understanding of emerging industry trends such as decarbonization, recycling, and digital transformation is an advantage

- Strong execution capability combined with strategic thinking, with the ability to balance day-to-day operations and mid- to long-term initiatives

- Leadership capability to guide junior members, contribute to team development, and support organizational performance

- Strong commercial acumen, analytical skills, and sound judgment under uncertain or dynamic market conditions

- Business-level proficiency in Japanese is required to support frequent communication with Japan headquarters and Japan-based stakeholders, including handling documentation and participating in meetings conducted in Japanese.
