Design Director

Job Summary

The incumbent leads a multidisciplinary design team to deliver projects across all design phases, ensuring compliance with contract documents, schedules, and budgets while fostering client relationships and professional development.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of Designers, FF&E Designers, Coordinators, and Draftsmen to execute projects aligned with contract documents, schedules, and budgets
• Oversee and review design outputs to ensure compliance with client requirements and contractual standards
• Coordinate project schedules, manpower planning, and documentation submissions to maintain project progress
• Communicate project updates and developments effectively to all team members
• Delegate tasks, provide constructive feedback, and support professional growth of subordinates
• Review and approve shop drawings for accuracy and compliance
• Attend site meetings and conduct site and factory inspections to monitor project progress and quality
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously with flexibility and adaptability
• Build and maintain positive client relationships to encourage repeat business

Preferred competencies and qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Architectural or Interior Design or equivalent
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, particularly in hospitality design, including leadership of design teams
• Creativity and artistic flair demonstrated through design work
• Strong understanding of design principles including composition, planning, materials, details, furniture, and fixtures
• Ability to interpret specifications and layouts accurately
• Proficient in drawing preparation and CAD standards with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Experience managing projects through all design phases
• Knowledge of site work processes and progress monitoring
• Expertise in design detailing and freehand sketching
• Familiarity with hotel design programs, operator design standards, and industry best practices
• Awareness of global design trends and passion for design innovation
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and observation skills with a leadership mindset
• Ability to work independently and responsibly under pressure to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Knowledge of AutoCAD, MS Office, Adobe Photoshop, 3D Max, and SketchUp is advantageous
• Effective problem-solving skills applied to design and project challenges
