Job Description: Engine Integration Engineer

Role Overview

Responsible for end-to-end Engine Integration for Color LaserJet platforms, covering calibration validation, print mode mapping, PQ measurement systems, issue triage, and cross-company collaboration with Canon and HP teams. The role ensures customer-relevant PQ performance from development through manufacturing and certification.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Calibration & Image Quality Validation

  • Confirm Out-of-Box (OOB) calibration performance using EMU1 or MT printers in production-unit state (Falcon)
  • Analyse calibration performance (CPR, Predictive Dhalf, On-Belt Dhalf)
  • Drive issue investigation and resolution with Canon and HP teams (Imaging, Firmware)

2. Print Mode & Media Mapping

  • Define and validate print mode mappings (HP MediaType vs. Canon engine modes)
  • Ensure documentation completeness in PDERS (with Engine System Engineer – ESE)
  • Verify mapping coverage across all media types in DIST (e.g., IOT data collection)

3. PQ Measurement & Test Development

  • Create PQ rulers per product for performance benchmarking
  • Develop PQ test suites in Quartz system for DIST to quantify customer-relevant PQ
  • Design and generate PQ patterns (PostScript, PCL6, PDF) for new features/issues

4. Manufacturing & Production Readiness

  • Develop manufacturing PQ limit samples for critical/persistent issues
  • Create manufacturing test pages for integration monitoring (Canon/HP)
  • Support Supplies index and yield testing

5. Issue Management & Cross-Team Coordination

  • Report formatter-related PQ issues and validate firmware fixes
  • Document PQ issues and resolutions with Canon via DDT process
  • Support JET coverage for non-MLK or major engine changes; maintain defect tracking binder

6. System Validation & DIST Execution

  • Verify DIST features (e.g., Multi-Table) and drive issue closure
  • Analyse image placement accuracy using DIST data
  • Ensure end-to-end PQ readiness across system configurations

7. Advanced PQ Development & Architecture Support

  • Support new engine architecture validation (e.g., halftone quality, moiré)
  • Utilise Canon-provided components (e.g., Laser Scanner Unit limit samples) for validation
  • Assist Imaging team on psychometric and expert-based PQ evaluations

8. Compliance, Certification & External Testing

  • Coordinate archival PQ testing:
    • German DIN-ISO (PTS)
    • ISO11798 (in-house)
  • Drive issue resolution with Canon for any compliance failures
  • Support regulatory testing (e.g., EE 5ns templates)
  • (Optional scope) Support air emissions (UFP/VOC) pre-testing and certification

9. Customer & Special Application Support

  • Enable PQ customisations for specialised applications:
    • Special media
    • Security printing (e.g., fingerprint, e-stamping)
    • Vertical solutions
  • Act as PQ consultant across teams for troubleshooting and feature enablement

Key Interfaces:

  • Internal (HP): Imaging, Firmware, ESE, CPE, TME, EE, Supplies
  • External: Canon (Engine & PQ teams), test labs (PTS)

Success Criteria:

  • Consistent OOB PQ performance across products
  • Accurate and complete print mode mapping across all media types
  • Robust PQ measurement systems deployed in DIST
  • Timely closure of PQ issues across HP–Canon ecosystem
  • Manufacturing and certification readiness with minimal escapes

Nice-to-Have / Additional Scope:

  • Air emissions (UFP/VOC) testing coordination
  • Advanced PQ perception modelling (psychometric studies)
