How will I help?

The Executive Director, Head of Financial Institutions Trade will lead Westpac’s Financial Institutions Trade franchise by originating, structuring and distributing trade risk through a global network of banking partners. The role is accountable for growing FI trade revenue, expanding distribution capacity, optimising capital efficiency, and strengthening Westpac’s position as a leading trade risk intermediary across Australasia.

FI Trade sits within CTT and is responsible for originating, structuring and distributing trade risk through Westpac’s global banking network. The team combines trade expertise, FI relationships and portfolio management capabilities to expand capacity, optimise returns and support client growth.

The Westpac Institutional Banking business is run as a global business within Westpac Banking Corporation, with Singapore branch (the Branch) overseeing the franchise from a Singapore and Asia perspective. The primary lines of businesses of WBC SG are Corporate and Institutional Banking, Global Transaction Services, Financial Markets and Treasury.

The key responsibilities are to:

• Lead FI Trade Origination and Distribution across Australia, New Zealand, and key international corridors, building and growing Westpac's FI Trade portfolio as a key driver of revenue growth, capital optimisation, and client competitiveness.


• Originate, structure, and execute FI trade transactions, including confirmations, participations, distribution, and risk transfer solutions, leveraging Westpac's global financial institution network to unlock new trade opportunities and enhance returns.


• Develop and monetise strategic relationships with correspondent banks, confirming banks, multilateral agencies, institutional investors, and trade finance partners to expand distribution capabilities and strengthen Westpac's market position.


• Drive portfolio management, pricing, and risk distribution strategies to optimise risk-weighted assets (RWA), capital utilisation, and portfolio returns, while recycling capacity to support sustainable growth.


• Embed capital efficiency and risk distribution considerations into trade origination, integrating FI capabilities into client transactions to maximise win rates, fee income, and margin performance.

What do I need?

Experience: 

• 10+ years' experience across trade finance, correspondent banking or financial institutions coverage


• Demonstrated experience in trade risk distribution, confirmations and participation


• Strong network of global trade finance and correspondent banking relationships


• Proven track record in originating and executing FI trade transactions


• Experience managing portfolios with RWA, capital and return objectives.

Leadership:

• Ability to build and lead a high-performing specialist trade team


• Strong stakeholder management across Coverage, Risk, Product and Operations


• Ability to influence senior executives and external financial institutions


• Proven capability leading strategic growth initiatives


• Ability to develop repeatable origination disciplines across a complex, multi-product portfolio
