Job Description - Executive, Ihsan Casket (Funeral Services)

Role Overview: 

The Senior Executive/Executive at Ihsan Casket is responsible for the end-to-end coordination and delivery of Islamic funeral and burial services with professionalism, compassion, and strict adherence to Syariah principles and organisational policies.

The role encompasses operational execution, specialised handling of repatriation and embalming cases, regulatory compliance, and client engagement to ensure dignified and seamless service delivery.

In addition, the Burial Executive contributes to community education, training initiatives, and public awareness efforts by serving as a subject-matter resource in burial management matters, supporting Ihsan Casket’s mission of compassionate and professional end-of-life care.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Core Burial & Funeral Operations

a. Arrange and conduct funeral and burial services in a professional, organised, and compassionate manner, in accordance with company policies, SOPs and Syariah principles.

b. Prepare and ensure the availability of all items and equipment required for funeral services.

c. Care for the deceased respectfully, including:

  • Collection and transfer of the deceased (including lifting)

  • Washing and shrouding of bodies (same gender)

  • Lowering the shrouded body into the grave

  • Recitation of talqin and assistance with related burial rites

d. In the event of unforeseen circumstances, ensure that an approved third-party vendor is arranged to carry out assigned duties.

2. Specialised Burial Cases

a. Arrange for the collection, cleansing, shrouding, and burial of:

  • Unclaimed surgical remains and fetuses

  • Umbilical cords and placentas

  • Stillborn babies (including prayer and burial)

b. Confirm and verify authorisation prior to proceeding with all the above service arrangements.

c. Handle and coordinate repatriation cases, including: 

  • Liaising with hospitals, embassies, airlines, freight forwarders, and overseas receiving parties

  • Ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory, airline, and destination country requirements

  • Preparing and verifying all required documentation for overseas transfer

3. Client Engagement & Aftercare

a. Inform client families of available services and support the delivery of selected services with care and sensitivity.

b. Handle aftercare matters, including:

  • Delivery of relevant documentation

  • Check in next-of-kin and assess the need for referral services.

  • Collection of client feedback and customer satisfaction surveys

c. Attend burial-related inquiries via phone calls and emails in a timely and professional manner.

d. Support the management of Ihsan Casket’s 24-hour hotline as part of a duty roster.

4. Compliance, Documentation & Governance

a. Prepare and accurately complete all documentation related to funeral services, including service reports and operational forms.

b. Handle contracts, legal documents, and payment-related processes in accordance with approved policies and in coordination with administrative and financial functions.

c. Ensure adherence to all applicable professional, regulatory, and religious requirements governing funeral services.

d. Manage petty cash utilisation in accordance with internal controls and coordinate documentation and top-ups with the Burial Executive (Admin & Publicity).

5. Training, Education & Outreach

a. Support and conduct virtual and in-person burial management courses based on Syariah teachings.

b. Participate in community engagement initiatives, including collaboration with religious and community organisations.

c. Contribute to the development of educational and informational content relating to burial management, Syariah guidance, and community awareness initiatives.

d. Represent Ihsan Casket at selected outreach events, talks, and engagements, as assigned.

e. Provide subject-matter input for publicity materials, social media content, and public communications to ensure accuracy and alignment with Syariah principles.

f. Support awareness campaigns related to end-of-life planning, burial procedures, and compassionate community care.

6. Operations Support & Logistics

a. Drive and maintain Ihsan Casket’s van in a clean and roadworthy condition, including regular inspections and servicing.

b. Ensure vehicles, tools, and equipment are maintained in a safe and usable condition.

c. Promote and maintain a safe and healthy work environment at all times.

7. Reporting & Professional Conduct

a. Provide regular updates to the Assistant / Manager, Deputy / Chief Executive Officer, and Burial & Ihsan Casket Committee on assignments, operations, and client feedback.

b. Uphold adab, akhlaq, and Islamic heritage in all aspects of work.

c. Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisory and management personnel.

8. Administrative & Operational Support

a. Attend phone calls and general enquiries in a professional and timely manner.

b. Manage administrative matters for Ihsan Casket, including procurement, quotations, requisitions, purchase orders, and approved ad-hoc purchases.

c. Complete and submit mandatory surveys and regulatory reports (e.g. NEA, MOH) in a timely manner.

d. Prepare meeting documents and accurately record minutes of meetings.

e. Generate MTFA Burial Operations reports (Deceased, Muslim Unclaimed Fetuses, and Surgical Remains), including documentation of pro-bono cases.

f. Prepare invoices for contractors and service providers.

g. Process payments in accordance with approved procedures, including petty cash replenishments, BCP service claims, and contractor invoices.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Islamic Studies is preferred.

  • Additional qualifications or experience in administration, business, or marketing will be an advantage.

  • Well-versed in Syariah aspects of funeral and burial management.

  • Proficient in basic computer applications, including MS Office.

  • High level of compassion, integrity, and professionalism.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Good problem-solving ability and attention to detail.

  • Able to multitask and work under time-sensitive conditions.

  • Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and overtime when required.

  • Possess a valid Class 3 / 3A driving licence.
