We are looking for an experienced H&M Claims Specialist for a global shipping client. This role will be responsible for managing a broad range of marine claims and insurance matters across the fleet, including casualty response, incident investigations, claims recovery, and stakeholder management.
The ideal candidate should possess at least 8 years of relevant experience in marine claims, insurance, or risk management gained with shipowners, ship managers, marine insurers, P&I Clubs, or related maritime organisations. Exposure to handling major casualties, Hull & Machinery (H&M) claims, and other complex marine incidents will be highly advantageous.
Responsibilities:
Act as the primary point of contact for marine insurance and claims matters across the fleet, providing practical advice and support to internal stakeholders.
Manage a wide spectrum of marine claims, including Hull & Machinery (H&M), Protection & Indemnity (P&I), crew, cargo, and other operational incidents.
Coordinate the handling of major casualties and complex incidents, including collisions, fires, groundings, salvage operations, and General Average cases, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
Conduct investigations into incidents and claims, establish liability and causation, and work closely with insurers, surveyors, lawyers, and external parties to protect the company's interests.
Lead claims recovery efforts against responsible third parties and insurers, negotiating settlements and pursuing recoveries on commercially favourable terms.
Support the management and administration of the company's marine insurance programme, ensuring adequate coverage and compliance with policy requirements.
Monitor claims trends, maintain accurate records, prepare management reports, and provide recommendations to mitigate future risks and losses.
Engage and manage external legal counsel and specialists in relation to disputes, arbitrations, mediations, litigation, and other contentious matters where required.
Deliver claims and insurance-related guidance and training to internal stakeholders to enhance awareness and strengthen risk management practices.
Support crisis response and incident management activities, including stakeholder communication and coordination during significant operational events.
Undertake occasional travel as required to support investigations, claims handling, and stakeholder engagement.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Law, Maritime Legal Studies, or Marine Insurance preferred.
Minimum 6-8 years of relevant marine insurance and claims management experience with shipowners, ship managers, P&I Clubs, or their correspondents.
Strong knowledge of maritime laws and conventions related to cargo liabilities.
Proven ability to work independently with strong communication and supervisory skills.
In-depth understanding of the container liner industry is advantageous.
Proficiency in business applications and IT tools such as SAP, Excel, and Microsoft Office.
