Job Description - IWSP Conversion_Automation Project Engineer

OUR STORY

At ST, we believe in the power of technology to drive innovation and make a positive impact on people, business, and society. We are a global semiconductor company, and our advanced technology & chips forms the hidden part of the world we live in today.

When you join ST, you will be part of a global business of more than 115+ nationalities and present in 40 countries, 50,000+, diverse and dedicated creators & makers of technology around the world!

Developing technologies takes more than talent: it takes amazing people who understands collaboration and respect. People with passion and desire to disrupt the status quo, push boundaries and drive innovation – whilst unlocking your own potential.

YOUR ROLE

The Automation Project Engineer is responsible for the planning, execution, and delivery of AMHS (Automated Material Handling System) projects in a semiconductor manufacturing environment, ensuring seamless integration with wafer fab operations. The role demands strict adherence to tight timelines, rapid response to dynamic changes, and compliance with semiconductor industry standards (e.g., SEMI, E84). Post-project, the engineer will assume ownership of AMHS equipment, focusing on performance optimization, root cause analysis (RCA), and implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime in a 24/7 high-volume production environment. Close collaboration with suppliers, fab operations, and cross-functional teams is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 1. Project Management & Execution
    - Lead AMHS deployment in semiconductor fabs, ensuring compatibility with cleanroom requirements, wafer handling protocols, and fab layout constraints.
    - Manage project schedules, resource allocation, and risk mitigation to meet aggressive semiconductor production ramp-up timelines.
    - Coordinate with OHT (Overhead Hoist Transport), AMR, stockers, and EFEM suppliers to ensure seamless integration with modules (e.g., lithography, etch, implant).
    - Ensure compliance with SEMI standards (e.g., SEMI E84 for AMHS, SECS/GEM communication) and fab safety protocols (working at height, chemical handling, fire suppression).
    - Conduct Final Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and performance validation with suppliers and fab teams.

  • 2. System Performance & Equipment Ownership (Fab Operations Support)
    - Own AMHS performance post-installation, ensuring high uptime (>99.9%) to prevent wafer movement bottlenecks in production.
    - Monitor OHT traffic, tower stocker utilization, and load port availability to optimize wafer delivery efficiency.
    - Perform RCA on AMHS-related wafer delays, misprocessing, or contamination events using 8D, 5 Whys, or Fishbone methodologies.

  • 3. Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement
    - Provide rapid troubleshooting for OHT jams, vehicle deadlocks, RFID misreads, or load port misalignments to minimize wafer stuck time.
    - Drive automation enhancements using lean program to reduce manual interventions.
    - Collaborate with equipment engineers to resolve wafer-handling-related defects (e.g., wafer breakage, misalignment).

  • 4. Stakeholder & Supplier Management
    - Lead weekly AMHS supplier meeting* to track defect rates, response times, and improvement actions.
    - Work with fab operations, production planning, and process engineering to align AMHS performance.
    - Provide training to technicians on AMHS recovery procedures and best practices.

Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering.
- 3+ years in semiconductor AMHS (OHT, stockers, AGV/AMR) or fab automation (experience with Muratec, Daifuku, SFA, Brooks systems is a plus).
- Strong knowledge of SEMI standards (E84, E87, E90), SECS/GEM.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft office tool
- Ability to work in a cleanroom environment and support 24/7 production as needed.

Work Environment:
- High-pressure semiconductor fab with strict cycle time and yield targets.
- Hybrid role: Project execution (initial phase) → Sustaining engineering (long-term ownership).
- On-call support for critical AMHS disruptions.

This role is critical for ensuring wafer delivery efficiency, minimizing misprocessing, and maintaining high fab productivity in a semiconductor manufacturing line.

Working at ST means innovating for a future that we want to make smarter, greener, in a responsible and sustainable way. Our technology starts with you. Join us and start the future!
