RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategy, Planning and Governance
    • Lead the design, implementation and review of University-wide strategies and programmes across Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), employee volunteerism and people-related sustainability priorities.
    • Translate emerging practices, benchmarks and employee feedback into practical recommendations that strengthen inclusive culture, community impact and sustainable workplace practices.
    • Develop tools, guidelines and processes that help managers and teams apply inclusive, responsible and sustainable practices in people programmes, decisions and daily work.
    • Represent Talent & Organisational Development (T&OD) in relevant committees, taskforces and working groups, supporting alignment across HR, sustainability, CSR and employee engagement priorities.
  • Stakeholder Partnership and Advisory
    • Advise senior leaders, HR colleagues, schools, offices and external partners on DEI, CSR, employee volunteerism and people-related sustainability initiatives.
    • Guide leaders, managers and employees to apply inclusive practices, model respectful workplace behaviours and improve engagement, community and sustainability-related outcomes.
    • Build and manage partnerships with social service agencies, government agencies and community partners to support CSR and employee volunteerism programmes.
  • Employee Volunteerism and Community Management
    • Manage and support the employee volunteer committee or community, including onboarding, engagement, communications, role clarity, regular meetings and follow-up on actions.
    • Mobilise employee volunteers and internal champions to support inclusion, CSR, community engagement and sustainability-related programmes across the University.
    • Create a positive and inclusive volunteer experience that encourages meaningful participation, recognises contributions and sustains engagement over time.
  • Programme Delivery, Communications and Capability Building
    • Develop, manage and improve programmes that promote inclusion, social responsibility, employee volunteerism and sustainable workplace practices within SMU.
    • Plan and implement communications, events and engagement campaigns that raise awareness, encourage participation and strengthen visibility of SMU's inclusion, volunteerism, community impact and sustainability efforts.
    • Develop content and provide subject matter input for internal and external communication channels, including SharePoint, intranet, blogs, social media and other platforms, as appropriate.
    • Design, facilitate and evaluate learning experiences and resources that build awareness, capability and shared ownership for inclusion, respectful workplace behaviours, employee volunteerism and social responsibility.
  • Analytics, Reporting and Continuous Improvement
    • Review relevant policies, practices and programmes to evaluate effectiveness, identify gaps and recommend improvements.
    • Develop goals, metrics and evaluation approaches to track progress and outcomes across DEI, culture, CSR, volunteerism and sustainability-related initiatives.
    • Analyse programme outcomes, employee feedback and relevant data to inform priorities, demonstrate impact and support evidence-based decisions.
  • Perform other duties within the scope and purpose of the role, as assigned by management or the department.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organisational Development, Psychology, Social Sciences or a related discipline. Relevant postgraduate qualifications or certifications in HR, OD, DEI, sustainability, CSR, community engagement or change management would be advantageous.
  • At least 10 years' relevant experience in HR, OD, DEI, culture, employee engagement, CSR, employee volunteerism, sustainability or related people-focused work.
  • Proven experience designing and delivering strategies or programmes that advance inclusive culture, respectful workplace behaviours, social responsibility, employee volunteerism, community engagement or people-related sustainability priorities.
  • Technical / Functional Competencies
    • DEI and inclusive practice: Applies DEI principles and inclusive workplace practices to strengthen accessibility, fair participation, respectful workplace behaviours and employee voice in people programmes, policies and decisions.
    • Programme design and delivery: Translates DEI, CSR, employee volunteerism and people-related sustainability priorities into practical programmes, tools and implementation plans.
    • Project and programme management: Plans, prioritises, coordinates stakeholders, manages risks, tracks progress and drives continuous improvement.
    • External partnership development: Builds and manages relationships with social service agencies, government agencies and community partners.
    • Volunteer community management: Engages, facilitates and supports employee volunteer committees or communities, including leadership, communications, action follow-up and recognition.
    • Data analytics and evaluation: Analyses feedback, programme data and benchmarks to identify trends, measure impact and inform evidence-based improvements.

    • Clear communication: Communicates sensitive or complex topics clearly, appropriately and respectfully across written, verbal and presentation formats.
    • Collaboration: Works across teams and agencies to build networks, coordinate efforts and deliver shared outcomes.
    • Facilitation and coaching: Guides leaders, managers and employee groups through dialogue, reflection and action on inclusion, culture and engagement priorities.
    • Professional integrity: Handles sensitive information and stakeholder concerns with discretion, accountability and sound judgement.
