Job Description - Maintenance Technician - Positive Work Culture

General Summary

We have a great opportunity for a Maintenance Technician to join our Maintenance team. This hands-on position will be located in Singapore. You will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing equipment around our facilities. Safety is taken extremely seriously, so you will be expected to adhere to all safety procedures and standards.  

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Maintenance team to execute maintenance and repair works for equipment in production shop floor as well as office areas
  • Repair and maintain plant utilities, including waste water treatment plant, soft water and DI water treatment plant, air compressors, and boilers
  • Apply relevant Permit to Work for the various maintenance activities 
  • Work with external contractors for various maintenance activities ensuring adherence to Michelman Safety Critical Rules.
  • Maintain inventory of critical spare parts to be readily available for repairs works.
  • Diagnose the cause of equipment malfunctions and breakdowns which involves analyzing symptoms, using technical manuals, and potentially running diagnostic tests.
  • Documenting maintenance activities, repairs performed, and any spare parts used in CMMS.
  • Regularly inspecting equipment and facilities to identify potential problems before they occur. This may involve checking for leaks, wear and tear, loose parts, and proper operation.
  • Performing routine maintenance tasks as outlined in manuals or established schedules in CMMS.
  • Participate as a member of various process improvement teams; support the safety committee functions

Other

  • Climb stairs and stand for extended periods of time, and safely lift up to 25 Kgs
  • Communicating effectively with supervisors, facility users, and potentially external vendors regarding maintenance needs and repairs.
  • Able to perform equipment maintenance tasks that may require bending, stooping, laying down or working from elevated platforms
  • Able to use full range of motion with arms, hands and fingers to reach, grasp, hold, push/pull, twist, and work with tools
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for extended periods of time
  • Able to safely operate a forklift
  • Able to work outside when required
  • Able to work on weekends, shift hours, overtime and be on standby for on-call maintenance job 24/7

Critical Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of relevant mechanical, electrical and plumbing system
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools for disassembly, repair, and reassembly of equipment
  • Basic understanding of electrical principles and safe handling of electrical components
  • Systematically identifying the source of equipment failures through inspections, testing, and logical deduction
  • Clearly communicating maintenance needs, repair procedures, and equipment status to supervisors
  • Experience utilizing a CMMS (Computerized maintenance management software) for task documentation
  • Knowing established procedures and best practices for preventative maintenance tasks for various equipment.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and regulations related to working with machinery, tools, and hazardous materials.
  • Knowledge of Lockout Tagout (LOTO) and confined space entry requirements
  • Proven ability to think independently as part of a team and handle project from conception to completion
  • Proficient in standard business office software
  • Good oral, and written communications skills
  • Willingness to learn new technologies, adapt to changing work environments, and stay updated on best practices within the field.

Education and Experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in plant maintenance operations
  • Technical degree, diploma or certifications preferred 
  • Proficient in instrumentation including flow meters, level sensors, pressure sensors, load cells
  • Experience with motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), starters, power supplies, and transformers
  • Proficient at pipefitting and welding
  • Experience with batch mixing tanks, pressure vessels, extruders, conveyors, boilers, compressors, and general building repair
  • Preferred knowledge of process control plants Programmable logic controller (PLC) and Distributed control systems (DCS) 

Work Hours

Michelman’s standard work hours for this role are Monday – Friday from 8 am – 5 pm Singapore time.
