Job Description - Manufacturing Cybersecurity Engineer

Information Security threat landscape continues to remain increasingly complex and require constant vigilance to secure a large, global enterprise. Applied has an exciting opportunity to join a world-class information security team. \n\nThis position plays a key role in managing activities aimed at mitigating security risks within Applied\u2019s manufacturing facilities. The responsibilities include ensuring that all manufacturing locations are both designed and operated in accordance with Applied cybersecurity standards. Furthermore, the role requires close collaboration with stakeholders across the manufacturing team to maintain effective security practices and uphold compliance with established requirements. \n\nThe Manufacturing Cybersecurity Engineer (OT/Industrial) is responsible for securing digital assets and industrial computing systems within a semiconductor equipment manufacturing environment. This role focuses on discovering and assessing devices, enforcing secure configuration baselines for Windows/Linux endpoints and servers, implementing network admission controls (NAC), operating malware prevention and application allowlisting, and executing decontamination and validation processes for incoming digital components. The role also supports security incident response for manufacturing networks and connected systems and partners closely with Manufacturing Engineering, IT Security, Network Engineering, Facilities, and Equipment Engineering.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n * Demonstrated ability to independently manage security initiatives and drive outcomes in complex manufacturing or OT environments.\n * Maintain accurate inventory of manufacturing digital assets including workstations, engineering laptops, test systems, servers, industrial PCs, and vendor systems.\n * Perform vulnerability scanning and assessment for eligible endpoints and servers while coordinating remediation within production constraints.\n * Ensure operating systems and servers meet defined security configuration baselines with documented exceptions where required.\n * Implement and operate Network Admission Control (NAC) to govern device access to manufacturing networks.\n * Own digital component decontamination processes for vendor laptops, removable media, firmware, drivers, and installation tools.\n * Deploy and manage antivirus, endpoint detection, and application allowlisting technologies suitable for manufacturing environments.\n * Respond to and support investigation of cybersecurity incidents affecting manufacturing systems.\n * Define, implement, and maintain manufacturing\u2011specific cybersecurity Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including fixture and equipment network onboarding, business continuity and disaster recovery (BCP/DR) strategies, and manufacturing cybersecurity training programs, ensuring consistent and repeatable security practices across global sites.\n * Develop documentation, runbooks, metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives for manufacturing cybersecurity controls.\n\n\n\nRequired Qualifications\n\n * Bachelor\u2019s degree in computer science, Information Security, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.\n * 5-7 years of experience in cybersecurity, information security, or OT/industrial security, with demonstrated exposure to manufacturing, factory, lab, or other controlled environments.\n * Working knowledge of manufacturing or OT cybersecurity concepts, including network segmentation, malware prevention, system hardening, and security controls in environments with limited or no internet connectivity.\n * Experience developing, documenting, and enforcing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for technical or operational environments, with an emphasis on repeatability, auditability, and risk reduction.\n * Hands\u2011on experience conducting vulnerability assessments, malware scans, or security reviews, and partnering with engineering, IT, or operations teams to drive remediation.\n * Familiarity with tools such as Tenable, Rapid7, etc.\n * Familiarity with Windows and/or Linux operating system baselines, secure configuration standards/benchmarks, and endpoint protection technologies.\n\n\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\n * Direct experience supporting manufacturing facilities, factory floors, test labs, or operational technology (OT) environments, including systems with strict uptime, safety, or regulatory constraints.\n * Experience designing or operating malware\u2011free certification or end\u2011of\u2011line security validation processes for products, fixtures, or production systems.\n * Knowledge of industrial network architectures, including segmented networks, air\u2011gapped systems, decontamination zones, and controlled data transfer mechanisms.\n * Familiarity with BCP/DR planning for manufacturing or OT environments, including recovery strategies that balance cybersecurity risk with operational continuity.\n * Exposure to product security, supply chain security, or secure manufacturing requirements, including collaboration with product, legal, or compliance teams.\n * Experience contributing to or reviewing corporate security policies, standards, or training programs, particularly those tailored to manufacturing or regulated environments.\n * Relevant certifications such as GICSP, CISSP, CISM, Security+, or equivalent, or demonstrated equivalent hands\u2011on experience.\n * Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing equipment and the associated SEMI cybersecurity standards.\n\n\n\n### \n\n\n\n\nFunctional Knowledge\n\n * Demonstrates conceptual and practical expertise in own discipline and basic knowledge of related disciplines\n\n\n\n\nBusiness expertise\n\n * Understands key business drivers and challenges and can translate these into understanding broader enterprise risks and threats \n\n\n\nLeadership\n\n * Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience;
