Job Summary 

Work with suppliers, business unit managers, purchasing, production planners, IT and other appropriate resources to strategically plan and coordinate the flow of materials and information from customers through procurement to delivery. Matrix management responsibilities with business units and support groups for production planning, shipping, receiving and inventory functions. Provides direct leadership and management of Purchasing and Supplier Quality functions.

 

Job description 

  • Lead and manage all procurement and materials management activities including order placement, supplier reduction/evaluation/certification, supplier follow-up, price negotiation and compliance with government procurement regulations.

 

  • Responsible for Procurement and Production Planning Department's manufacturing resource-planning activities. These activities need to help achieve sales and RONA objectives and maintain 100% on-time customer deliveries. 

 

  • Matrix responsibilities for personnel involved with the MRP database to achieve and maintain a high degree of data accuracy, integrity, and ownership.

 

  • Ensure organization and departmental compliances with government laws and regulations and company policies and processes. 

 

  • Accountable for location/division materials metrics and Standards of Performance.

 

  • Define and implement automated systems to plan and track material flow from customers through procurement to delivery to support a supply chain management strategy.

 

  • Ensure all the location/division’s material management policies are consistent with the inventory control objectives of the Corporation.

 

  • Facilitate corporate purchasing and materials initiatives including common part numbers, supplier managed inventory, consolidated purchasing agreements, supplier reduction and supplier quality certifications.

 

  • Advise on supplier managed inventory or supplier-based contracts with customers.

 

  • Support internal or external audit requirements relative to the planning, procurement or inventory control functions.

 

  • Prepare and manage department budget within established guidelines.

 

  • Effectively create and sustain procurement to delivery material and system cost reduction programs for both direct purchases and commodity related purchases.

 

  • Provide professional development for all materials team members. Explain and support company policies and procedures.

 

  • Actively support and implement lean principles and facilitate Kanban, materials requirement planning techniques

 

Job Requirements: 

  • Education and experience at a professional level typically acquired through a B.A. /B.S. degree in a related technical or business discipline or equivalent, and six or more years of directly related experience and demonstrated ability to perform in the described role and responsibilities and obtain the desired results.

 

  • Substantial practical knowledge and understanding of products, manufacturing processes, and/or specialty areas in quality or operations support, including applicable information systems and reports (e.g. MRP or other planning/execution systems). General knowledge of business and government regulations (e.g. manufacturing specifications, FAA, safety).

 

  • Demonstrated teamwork and team building skills in producing results and meeting organizational objectives. Capable of assessing and developing individual and team skills and capabilities. Able to create and maintain enthusiasm for new and challenging goals. Serve as a role model by promoting new ideas and positive change.
