Position Overview:
The Mechanical Engineer in the Topsides Mechanical Equipment Discipline is a senior technical expert responsible for leading complex engineering projects and providing advanced technical guidance in the field of package module/skid/equipment. This role involves developing innovative engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and mentoring junior engineers. The Mechanical Engineer plays a crucial role in project execution, from initial design through to final implementation, and acts as a key technical interface with clients and stakeholders. This role may require travel to the US, Europe and/or Asia if neccessary.
Responsibilities:
- Provide advanced expertise and knowledge to select package equipment/skid/module during the conceptual design / proposal phase and conduct specific studies during the basic and detailed engineering phases.
- Preparation and checking of engineering deliverables such as specifications, datasheets, RFQs, TBEs for pumps, compressors, gas turbines, engines and other machinery on offshore facilities.
- Review of vendor proposals, prepare technical bid clarifications, attend clarification meetings. Review and approve vendor data and deliverables.
- Provide technical expertise in the field of Package Engineering and provide advice during the conceptual, basic and detailed engineering phases.
- Provide expertise input for risk assessment in engaging with vendors, conduct manufacturing facilities visit to gather information that support detailed engineering activities, and to obtain feedback on manufacturing limitations, testing, lead times etc.
- Develop standard specifications and procedures related to the design, manufacturing, supply, installation, commissioning and operations and/or integrity management for rotating equipment.
- Participate in project planning, scheduling, and progress tracking.
- Assist in resolving technical issues during the fabrication, installation and commissioning phases.
- Provide guidance and support to junior engineers and designers.
- Review and approve the work of less experienced team members to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Troubleshoot and solve technical problems encountered during project execution.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and technical discussions to ensure robust engineering solutions.
- Answer general queries arising from clients, contractors or internal company departments on aspects related to rotating equipment.
- Prepare formal responses to comments from classification societies and clients on specifications, drawings, etc.
- Coordinate with fabrication, installation, commissioning and operations teams to resolve technical issues and ensure smooth execution of projects.
- Maintain accurate records of design changes, decisions, and project milestones.
- Ensure all documentation is complete and compliant with project requirements and quality management systems.
- Prepare project schedules and progress reports to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Requirements:
- Minimum Bachelor Degree or Master Degree in Mechanical or related Engineering.
- Minimum 10 - 15 years experience and/or above in the offshore or onshore oil and gas industry.
- Minimum consecutive 5 - 7 years experience at top-tier FPSO contractor or Offshore/Onshore EPC contractor (minimum 5 - 7 years working experience in the same contractor).
- Minimum 1 FPSO EPCI Project experience from the begining of project (engineering) until the sail-away to site or delivery of FPSO.
- Hands-on Mechanical Static or Package engineering experience in FPSO or Offshore EPCI projects including RFT Document Preparation, Tender Process Handling (Clarification and Technical Bid Evaluation), Vendor Coordination and Installation/Construction/Commissioning phase support.
- Hands-on Field Engineering in Construction phase or Onshore/Offshore commissioing experience is value-added.
- Extensive knowledge of Mechanical Static or Package engineering practices, principles, industry codes and standards - as well as an understanding of scientific methods of problem-solving.
- Strong leadership skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, with strong attention to detail and accuracy. ability to manage multiple priorities.
