Nightclub managers have a wide range of responsibilities that can differ according to who their employer is. Overall, they are in charge of running the day-to-day operations of a nightclub, from managing inventory and staff to overseeing the appearance and cleanliness. Some nightclubs have restaurants in them, and managers may be put in charge of the restaurant and club.

Because most nightclubs have bars inside, nightclub managers need to be at least 21 years of age. A high school diploma is the minimum education requirement, but some employers may prefer a college degree. A bachelor's degree in business management can teach skills useful for managing a nightclub. Alternatively, independent business classes are an option.
Nightclub managers need strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Additional skills in managing inventory, budgeting, payroll management, and spreadsheet software are also required, depending on the employer. Accounting courses can teach these skills.
Employers commonly look for candidates with previous experience in the entertainment, hospitality, or food service industries. This also includes working in a bar. Depending on the employer, applicants may need to have specific managerial experience. Additionally, some applicants may need to have certification in food and drink service safety.
