Job Description - Regional Head of Data & AI, Asia

We are looking for a Regional Head of Data& AI, Asia, based in Singapore.

The Impact You Will Have

As the Regional Head of Data & AI, Asia, you will be responsible for shaping, driving and executing the AI strategy for Asia, with a strong emphasis on Generative AI and Agentic AI solutions. You will lead the identification, prioritisation and delivery of high-impact AI use cases across underwriting, claims, distribution and operational functions, while ensuring alignment with Allianz Commercial’s global AI roadmap. You will be a hands-on strategic leader who can translate cutting-edge AI capabilities into tangible business outcomes, champion adoption across diverse Asia markets, and build strong partnerships with local and global stakeholders. You will also play a key role in establishing Responsible AI governance practices across the region.

Some of your specific responsibilities could include:

AI Strategy &Execution

  • Develop and execute the Asia’s AIstrategy in alignment with Allianz Commercial’s global AI roadmap, with aprimary focus on Generative AI and Agentic AI applications.
  • Act as a local counterpart to GDOto apply strategy and guide execution locally
  • Identify, prioritise and deliver high-impact AI use cases across underwriting, claims, distribution, risk consulting and operational functions.
  • Drive the transition of AI initiatives from pilot/proof-of-concept to scalable, production-grade deployments that deliver measurable business outcomes and ROI.
  • Maintain a rolling AI use case portfolio with clear business cases, timelines and success metrics.

Generative AI & Agentic AI Leadership

  • Lead the evaluation, adoption and deployment of language models (both large and small), generative AI tools and agentic AI workflows across the Asia’s business.
  • Design and oversee the implementation of AI agents capable of autonomous decision-making in areas such as submission triage, document processing, claims assessment and customer interaction.
  • Stay at the forefront of emerging AI technologies, evaluating new models, frameworks and vendor offerings (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, open-source) for regional applicability.

Responsible AI &Governance

  • Establish and maintain a regional AI governance framework, ensuring compliance with evolving Asia regulatory landscapes (e.g. Singapore’s AI governance framework, Australia’s AI ethics principles, Japan’s AI guidelines).
  • Implement Responsible AI practices including model risk management, bias detection, explainability, transparency and human-in-the-loop safeguards.
  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, Risk and Information Security teams to ensure AI deployments meet regulatory, ethical and data privacy requirements.

Stakeholder Engagement & Change Management

  • Act as the primary AI liaison between the GDO and Asia business leaders, translating complex AI concepts into actionable business in sights and fostering AI-driven decision-making.
  • Drive AI adoption and literacy across the region through training programmes, workshops, internal communications and hands-on enablement.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Lines of Business, IT, Pricing, Product Management and regional leadership to ensure alignment and sustainable adoption of AI solutions.

Vendor & Partner Ecosystem

  • Manage relationships with external AI technology vendors, cloud platform providers and academic/research partners across the Asia region.
  • Evaluate and recommend AI tools, platforms and partnerships that accelerate the regional AI agenda.

Performance & Reporting

  • Define and track AI-related KPIs, measuring business impact, adoption rates and return on investment for AI initiatives.
  • Provide regular reporting and updates to the Head of AI, Allianz Commercial, and relevant Asia leadership on AI progress, risks and opportunities.
  • Contribute to global AI community of practice, sharing Asia learnings and best practices with other regional AI leads.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

Technical Skill:

  • Generative AI, language models (large and small, including SLMs for edge/on-device deployment), prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), fine-tuning and agentic AI architectures.(Minimum 7 to 10 years)
  • AI/ML frameworks, cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), and MLOps practices. (Minimum 7 to 10 years)
  • AI principles, model risk management, AIgovernance frameworks and data privacy regulations across Asia jurisdictions. (Minimum7 to 10 years)
  • Tools and platforms such as Python, SQL, Databricks, and modern AI development stacks. (Minimum 7 to 10 years)

General Skill:

  • Project Steering: Exceptional stakeholdermanagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence seniorleaders and translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences. (Minimum7 to 10 years)
  • Change Management: Strong change management capabilities with a proven ability to drive AI adoption across diverse, multi-cultural teams. (Minimum 7 to 10 years)
  • Entrepreneurship: Entrepreneurial mindset with a bias for action and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed organisation. (Minimum 7 to 10 years)
  • Leadership: Ability to build, inspire and lead high-performing, cross-functional teams across multiple Asia markets. (Minimum7 to 10 years)
  • Insurance: Strong understanding of the insurance value chain (underwriting, claims, distribution, pricing) is highly desirable. (Minimum 7 to 10 years)

Education / Certifications:

  • Bachelors degree in a related field. Master degree is a plus.
