Job Description - Release Train Engineer (SAFe certified, Maritime Industry)

  • At least 5 years in a Release Train Engineer role or similar positions (Agile Coach, Scrum Master, Project Manager, Product Owner).
  • Preferable experience in shipping, logistics, supply chain, or technology industries.
  • Demonstrable knowledge in Applications, Data, and Technology architecture (especially CICD technologies).
  • Proficient in designing and delivering scaled Agile programs.

As a Release Train Engineer, you will lead a critical role as a dependency manager through the monitoring and coordination of ongoing projects and applications.

Responsibilities:

Agile Leadership:

  • Facilitate cross-squad ceremonies to resolve impediments, track dependencies, and align with PI goals.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and other stakeholders.
  • Foster collaboration between teams and System/Solution Architects.
  • Champion Agile and SAFe principles, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.

Planning & Coordination:

  • Organize and facilitate PI Planning sessions, ensuring team alignment on priorities and objectives.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners to prioritize and groom the Program Backlog.
  • Monitor progress, address deviations, and ensure timelines and Definition of Done are met.

Communication & Reporting:

  • Develop and maintain communication plans to keep stakeholders informed.
  • Provide regular status updates to leadership, highlighting milestones, risks, and areas for improvement.
  • Maintain transparency by reporting relevant metrics on the project's performance and health.

Problem Resolution:

  • Identify and address impediments, risks, and dependencies proactively.
  • Collaborate with teams to find creative solutions to challenges.
  • Escalate critical issues to leadership with recommended actions.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Organize and facilitate Inspect and Adapt workshops to gather feedback and identify improvement areas.
  • Implement lessons learned and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Share best practices and contribute to the evolution of Agile practices within the organization.

Typical Deliverables:

  • Prioritized and groomed Program Backlog for upcoming Program Increments.
  • PI Planning artifacts, including Program Board, Program Backlog, and team plans.
  • Regular status reports and metrics on the health and performance of the ART.
  • Action plans and improvements from Inspect and Adapt workshops.
  • Resolutions to impediments and dependencies impacting the Agile Project.
  • Bachelor's Degree in IT, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years in a Release Train Engineer role or similar positions (Agile Coach, Scrum Master, Project Manager, Product Owner).
  • Preferable experience in shipping, logistics, supply chain, or technology industries.
  • Demonstrable knowledge in Applications, Data, and Technology architecture (especially CICD technologies).
  • Proficient in designing and delivering scaled Agile programs.
  • Experience engaging with both C-Suite and operational staff.
  • Ability to articulate the benefits of an Agile operational model.
  • Interest in emerging technology trends and their application to Agile transformation.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, people management, and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Recent Agile certifications (SAFe RTE) preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Teams, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook).
  • Proficiency in English, both verbal and written.
