Job Description - Research Fellow (Psychology/Education)

The School of Social Sciences (SSS) at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU) invites suitable applications for the position of Research Fellow (Psychology/Education) on a 24-month contract basis, renewable subject to performance and project needs.

Project Title: Profiling Academic Trajectories and Heterogeneity of Low-Progress Learners for Enhancing Learning Support (PATHS)

Project Introduction: The PATHS study is a Ministry of Education (MOE)-funded longitudinal investigation tracking 500–600 Primary 1 students enrolled in the Learning Support Programme (LSP) and/or Learning Support for Mathematics (LSM) across 20+ Singapore primary schools. Using person-centred analytic models, the study identifies heterogeneous learner subgroups across cognitive, literacy, mathematical, and socio-emotional domains, and examines how these profiles evolve and predict academic outcomes. Findings will inform more targeted, evidence-based support for low-progress learners.

The Research Fellow will lead day-to-day project operations, manage the research team, oversee data collection and analysis pipelines, and contribute to research outputs, under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, and in close collaboration with Co- Principal Investigator s at NTU, NIE, and MOE.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead project coordination across schools and multiple institutional stakeholders across four data collection waves

  • Liaise with MOE, school principals, Co- Principal Investigators, and an international consultant; contribute to study materials and data management systems

  • Prepare and update ethics applications

  • Oversee participant recruitment

  • Supervise Research Assistants and part-time student assistants in administering psychoeducational assessments

  • Develop and execute quantitative data analysis pipelines (Mplus, R)

  • Prepare research progress reports, policy briefs, presentations, and manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals

  • Perform administrative and procurement tasks as required by the Principal Investigator

Job Requirements:

Essential:

  • PhD in Psychology or a closely related field from a university of good standing

  • Strong quantitative skills with knowledge of advanced statistical methods; proficiency in Mplus, R, and SPSS/jamovi/JASP

  • Experience preparing ethics documentation and managing multi-site, school-based research

  • Excellent written and spoken English; ability to prepare manuscripts and stakeholder reports to a high standard - essential for data analysis and communication with stakeholders

  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills; self-directed and able to manage competing priorities

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with psychoeducational assessment instruments used with young children

  • Prior experience conducting school-based research, particularly with Primary-level students

  • Track record of peer-reviewed publications

  • Knowledge of Singapore's primary education system is an advantage
