Singapore is our first regional operations base in Asia.

About the Role

Hydrobiology Singapore Pte Ltd is seeking a dedicated and skilled Senior Environmental Consultant - Aquatic Ecologist to join our expanding Ecology and Biodiversity Management Team. Based in Singapore, you will contribute to diverse projects across the ASEAN region, supporting baseline ecological surveys, due diligence, and impact assessments in some of the region’s most dynamic and sensitive ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Environmental Consultant - Aquatic Ecologist, you will be responsible for designing and delivering high-quality aquatic ecological assessments. Working closely with our experienced multidisciplinary team, you will support environmental planning, regulatory compliance, and the achievement of sustainable development outcomes.

  • Plan and conduct aquatic ecological surveys across diverse landscapes and water bodies.
  • Identify regional aquatic flora and fauna, assess habitats, and map ecological communities.
  • Contribute to baseline ecological surveys, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), and the development of mitigation strategies.
  • Analyze field data and produce clear, scientifically robust technical reports.
  • Liaise with clients, partners, and government agencies throughout Southeast Asia.
  • Stay up to date with local and regional environmental regulations and best practices.
  • Support the design and implementation of biodiversity monitoring programs.
  • Develop and lead proposal writing, project scoping, and business development initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in Biology, Aquatic Ecology, Marine Science, Environmental Science, Zoology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in aquatic ecology, preferably within the ASEAN region.
  • Strong expertise in species identification and ecological fieldwork.
  • Familiarity with biodiversity-related legislation and frameworks in Southeast Asia.
  • Experience with the Integrated Biodiversity Assessment Tool (IBAT) and similar spatial or ecological assessment tools.
  • Proficiency in GIS and ecological data management tools.
  • Strong skills in statistical analysis, including multivariate methods and ecological data interpretation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience in ecological surveys, habitat restoration, or biodiversity offsetting.
  • Possession of relevant permits or licenses for ecological survey work within the region.
  • Proficiency in regional languages, which is advantageous for stakeholder engagement (not required).
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement for ecological projects.

Why Join Hydrobiology?

  • Work with a respected environmental consultancy with strong regional presence.
  • Contribute to meaningful, science-based projects that support sustainable development.
  • Thrive in a supportive and inclusive work culture with clear pathways for career growth.
  • Competitive salary and flexible work arrangements.
