Senior Research Engineer, TCOMS

Job Description

-Contribute to high-quality research and development work in TCOMS laboratory through physical experiments including:

o design of scaled physical test models, such as maritime vessels, offshore rigs, marine renewable platforms, and aquaculture systems for testing in TCOMS Ocean Basin.

o generation of detailed design, production, assembly, and as-built drawings of test models.

o Work with a team of engineers and technicians on model fabrication and modification, calibration, instrumentation, and experimental setup.

o enhance the measurement of models? behaviour and response by use of appropriate sensors.

o document design processes, methodologies, and results.

o contribute to process enhancements for improved efficiency of research work.

-Perform research in the following areas:

o Offshore hydrodynamics

o Coastal Protection

o Loads, motions and response analysis of Marine & Offshore platforms and floating structures

o Fluid-structure interactions

· Collaborate with internal teams, affiliated research institutes and other relevant stakeholders in proposal preparation and submission.

-Any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job Requirements

-Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Offshore Engineering, or other related disciplines.

-More than 5 years of relevant research/industry experience with competent knowledge in some of the following areas:

o Offshore engineering, marine engineering, hydrodynamics, naval architecture.

-Prior knowledge in the following numerical methods/software/programming languages will be an advantage:

o CAD software such as SolidWorks, Rhino, AutoCAD

o Engineering tools such as WAMIT, SESAM and OrcaFlex

o Programming codes such as Python, MATLAB, or equivalent.

o StarCCM+, OpenFOAM

-Model experiments in wave flumes, wave tank or ocean basin.

-Good interpersonal and communications skills.

-Ability to adapt and work effectively as members of a team.

-Good command of written and spoken language.

-Resourceful and self-driven with a high degree of professional integrity.
