Senior Risk Manager Commodities

Our client, a well-established global commodities trading firm with a strong presence in Asia is seeking an experience Senior Risk Manager to join them.

The Senior Risk Manager to oversee and strengthen the firm's market & credit risk frameworks across its global commodities trading activities. The successful candidate will provide independent risk oversight across physical commodities, OTC and exchange-traded derivatives, structured products and trading portfolios.

Working closely with Front Office, Finance and senior management, the individual will play a key role in identifying emerging risks, challenging trading exposures, managing counterparty credit risk and ensuring the business operates within its approved risk appetite.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide independent oversight of market risk exposures across physical commodities, OTC and exchange-traded derivatives and structured products.
2. Monitor trading positions, VaR, Expected Shortfall, Greeks, stress losses, basis risk, spread risk and portfolio concentrations.
3. Review hedging strategies, trading exposures and P&L attribution, providing independent challenge to Front Office.
4. Develop and enhance market risk methodologies, risk analytics, stress testing and scenario analysis.
5. Assess the impact of market volatility, geopolitical events, supply disruptions and extreme market movements on trading portfolios.
6. Review and challenge new products, structured transactions and bespoke trading strategies, ensuring appropriate risk limits and hedging arrangements.
7. Oversee counterparty credit risk across customers, financial institutions, trading counterparties and commercial partners.
8. Conduct credit assessments and recommend appropriate credit ratings, limits and transaction structures.
9. Monitor current and potential future exposures (PFE), credit limit utilisation and counterparty concentrations.
10. Lead independent risk reviews and approvals for new products, transactions and trading activities.
11. Prepare risk reports and present key findings to senior management and risk committees.
12. Work closely with Front Office, Compliance, Legal, Finance and Internal Audit on risk-related matters.
13. Monitor regulatory and industry developments and translate them into practical risk management enhancements.

Skills & Experience:

1. 10–15 years of relevant risk management experience within an international commodities trading firm, investment banks or hedge funds.
2. Strong experience in Market Risk Management, covering physical commodities, OTC derivatives and exchange-traded products.
3. Good understanding of commodity markets, trading strategies, derivatives valuation, hedging and risk analytics.
4. Solid knowledge of VaR, stress testing, Greeks, P&L attribution and portfolio risk management.
5. Experience in Counterparty Credit Risk, including credit assessments, exposure monitoring, credit limits and collateral management.
6. Familiarity with margining arrangements, ISDA/CSA documentation and counterparty exposure methodologies.
