Job Description - Ship Tracking Analyst

Role Profile


The position of Ship Tracking Analyst is a new role that joins the Data team at Lloyd’s List Intelligence, the global leaders in maritime big data, analytics and insights. Lloyd’s List Intelligence has a highly ambitious data and product roadmap for the next three years, delivering high velocity, high growth products to an increasingly sophisticated customer group in the ever-changing compliance environment.




This position presents an exciting opportunity for an energetic and results-driven individual with experience in large maritime datasets and a strong desire to learn. The ideal candidate will work quickly to understand problems and needs of both current and pre-sales customers, helping them navigate our data to drive informed decision-making.


 


As a subject matter expert in Automatic Identification System (AIS) and vessel movements, the Ship Tracking Analyst will play a pivotal role in the pre-sales process and contribute to the ongoing success of our AIS SeaOrbis offering, supporting both potential and current customers. AIS SeaOrbis is our cutting-edge vessel tracking solution, combining terrestrial, shipborne, and satellite AIS data to provide unparalleled global visibility of vessel movements. By integrating multiple AIS sources, it delivers a comprehensive, real-time view of maritime activity, significantly enhancing situational awareness, operational efficiency, and data-driven decision-making.


 


This is a full time permanent role reporting to the Ship Tracking Manager.


 


This role is a balanced working model between home and in our modern and centrally located Singapore office with an excellent and a wide variety of services and transport links situated nearby.


 


Key Responsibilities



  • Supporting the pre-sales and post-sales process by working closely with Sales, Data, Product and Tech teams, to help both potential and current customers understand the value of our AIS data and make informed purchasing decisions.

  • Resolving complex queries on AIS data, sources, and vessel movements by applying strong data analysis skills and maritime expertise to deliver technical insights and data-driven insights.

  • Become a subject matter expert in all things AIS, by analysing AIS datasets and provide actionable insights that support internal teams and customer needs.

  • Support client meetings as a subject matter expert alongside sales and product management when required.

  • Supporting additional data-related initiatives to support the business as needed.

  • The role may require out-of-hours work (evening/weekend) to support high priority requests and tight deadlines from time-to-time.

  • The role requires close collaboration with:

  • Sales reps and Pre-sales Engineers to address customer enquiries about our data, demonstrate its value, and help customers make informed purchasing decisions.

  • The Data and AIS POD teams to access accurate data and ensure the correct context is communicated to customers.

  • Technology teams, leveraging emerging tools such as Heavy AI to drive innovation and efficiency in our analytical processes.


 


What we are looking for:


Essential



  • Working knowledge (ideally 12 month’s) of terrestrial, satellite, and shipborne AIS analysis.

  • Essential background in analysing terrestrial AIS, satellite AIS and shipborne AIS

  • Experience of resolving complex customer queries with regards to ship movements, AIS etc

  • Strong problem-solving skills and analytical mindset.

  • Working experience with relational databases (eg. Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL)

  • Programming skills in R and/or Python

  • A customer-first approach and strong time management skills with ability to work to tight deadlines

  • A flexible, inquisitive, can-do attitude with the ability to manage several ongoing tasks at any one time

  • Willingness to work outside of normal work hours from time-to-time


Desirable



  • A working understanding of the technical foundations of AIS and other ship tracking, how data is collected and how it is relayed, processed and databased, including SmartMatch, Crosscheck etc.

  • Confident presenting to internal and external audiences, including customers.

  • Experience working in a global business.

  • Experience working for a PE backed business

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer science / Software Engineering / Maths / Physics or equivalent numerate qualification
