You will be part of the team which is responsible for the management (Ingest, Quality Control [QC] and Archive), organisation and preservation of broadcast and digital media records of national and historical significance to Singapore, using the best available processes and technology that meet international AV preservation standards. The work contributes to a future ready National Archives of Singapore (NAS) under the National Library (NL)-NAS Masterplan and supports the Libraries of the Future Masterplan, which in turn supports Singapore’s national initiatives such as Smart Nation.
[What you will be working on]
- Manage the Digital AV Preservation system which includes a media asset management system and file-based QC to ensure every piece of content that is being archived goes through a stringent, in-depth QC process before it is archived to LTO Tape.
- Conduct research on developments in preservation of broadcast and digital media content, evaluate and recommend appropriate preservation processes for AV records to senior management. Seek approval and implement improvements to preservation methods and workflows.
- Incorporate Artificial Intelligence in areas of facial recognition, speech recognition and statistical learning to workflow systems and operations
- Contribute and drive the technical engagements with vendors to evaluate, verify, test and accept end-to-end OTT platform solutions
- Design, specify, refine and maintain the multi-screen multimedia content-based OTT client experiences on apps and devices including browsers, Android and iOS apps
- Ensure timely Migration of preserved records in LTO tape library.
- Ensure proper documentation of digitisation process and technical metadata, and perform QC checks and technical checks on the digitised files
- Oversee the procurement of new equipment, supplies, services for repair and periodic preventive maintenance of AV equipment needed for the preservation and migration of audio/video records.
- Coordinate with internal and external parties, answer queries including checking on AV equipment, recommend appropriate SLAs and explore deployment of proper equipment for preservation work.
- Review policies, procedures and standards for AV preservation. Review ISO-certified preservation processes and align them with international archiving practices.
- Explore and recommend new technologies and platforms relating to broadcast and digital media preservation in consultation with management.
- Plan for business continuity of NAS preservation and digitisation works as well as to prepare Sound and Moving Image Lab for emergency recovery and crisis management.
[What we are looking for]
- 2-5 years of working experience in AV preservation or broadcast industry, with minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in IT related and software design development / testing cycle of IOS, Android and Web applications
- Experience in video conservation and preservation work in archives setting preferred.
- Good team player with the ability to multi-task, perform research (especially on historical topics) and present findings
- Excellent knowledge of video and/ or audio preservation standards/formats and compression codecs adopted internationally, with experience in practical application of standards
- Strong understanding of enterprise level storage architecture, drive formatting, partitioning and raids
Work location will be at the National Archives of Singapore.
