Sub-Editor, Lianhe Zaobao (Forum Desk)

Lianhe Zaobao is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Sub-editor to join its esteemed Forum Page. This crucial role involves curating and shaping public discourse by presenting diverse reader perspectives, reflecting the voices of the community and various industries, and guiding public attention to issues of public interest and the everyday lives of Singaporeans.

Job Description:

• Screen and evaluate reader submissions for suitability, relevance, and alignment with editorial standards.
• Review, edit, and refine selected manuscripts for clarity, accuracy, and adherence to house style.
• Conscientiously conduct fact-checking, which may involve liaising with contributors or referencing public sources to verify content veracity.

Requirements:

• A degree from a recognised university, preferably in Journalist, Communications, Arts & Social Sciences or related fields.
• Strong command of the Chinese language to accurately review, edit, and refine Chinese-language manuscripts, coupled with strong English proficiency to conduct cross-referencing on English public sources and communicate with diverse external stakeholders.
• 3 to 5 years of working experience in media or a related field.
• A keen interest in current affairs, social trends, and how public policy interacts with society and the everyday lives of Singaporeans.
• A strong team player with professional maturity and excellent interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to engage and communicate with strangers from diverse backgrounds.
• Patience and empathy in listening to and considering differing opinions.
