Job Description - Teaching Assistant (Lower School) - Exciting Challenge

We are hiring a resourceful Teaching Assistant (Lower School) to join our collaborative team at North London Collegiate School (Singapore) Pte Ltd. in Queenstown, Central Region.

NLCS (Singapore) is looking for enthusiastic, highly qualified and inspirational Teaching Assistants (Lower School) with outstanding track records for an August 2024 start. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the development of a new school, drawing on the significant educational expertise and resources of NLCS International.

Successful applicants will need to possess excellent communication skills. Previous experience in a school setting would be an advantage but is not essential; of prime importance is the ability to support students and teachers in order to ensure that academic provision is consistently outstanding.

Key Responsibilities:

Pastoral Care

  • Demonstrate a positive and caring attitude towards every student
  • Liaise with and support Class Teacher and Junior School Management Team in all matters pertaining to pastoral well-being, responsibility and strategy
  • Supervise students in line with the school’s code of conduct for behaviour and discipline
  • Complete student observations and feedback to the teacher, as necessary, in a range of formats
  • Follow the school’s policies and procedures with regard to pastoral provision

Curriculum

  • Assist the teacher in the delivery of the taught curriculum, especially Numeracy and Literacy;
  • Carry out planned curriculum tasks with individuals or groups under teacher instruction;
  • Be aware of forward planning and events in the curriculum, contributing ideas as necessary;
  • Supervise and support students in planned activities under teacher instruction;
  • Listen to children read, using the appropriate skills
  • Assess individual student’s sight words/ HFW spellings-monitor progress and set new words.

Organisation

  • Actively contribute to setting and maintaining daily routines
  • Anticipate the organisational needs of the class and act upon them
  • Ensure the correct supply of stationery materials
  • Liaise with parents around organisational issues
  • Work with teacher to prepare resources for the class
  • Maintain educational equipment used by the class, including care and hygiene

Classroom

  • Support class teacher in creating and maintaining an attractive, tidy, stimulating and supportive learning environment, including displays and equipment
  • Support class teacher in setting up and clearing away equipment and resources for students to access during the day and in specific activities

Communication

  • Give regular feedback to the teacher on educational and pastoral issues
  • Inform teacher of communication/letters from other departments
  • Communicate confidently with teachers and their assistants across all key stages
  • Ensure that letters to parents are distributed
  • Communicate confidently and effectively with parents, referring to the teacher as required
  • Deal with queries from other areas informing the teacher as required

General

  • Work in areas of the school in other job-related tasks as circumstances require
  • Maintain a standard of personal image in keeping with the classroom role.
  • Maintain on-going professional development in accordance with the requirements of the school and maintain an accurate and up to date record of that professional development.

Safeguarding

  • Abide by the school safeguarding policy and keep abreast of any changes

Professional Qualifications /Experience

  • You should possess a Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education and have valid teaching certification (L1 and/or L2) from ECDA.
  • Minimum 3 years of working experience within a school or other education environment
  • Previous experience of the UK National Curriculum would be an advantage but is not essential; of prime importance is the ability to motivate and inspire students in order to ensure that academic provision is consistently outstanding.
  • Ensure that your own educational philosophy aligns with the NLCS ethos and you should have a proven outstanding track record.
  • Required to commence work in August 2024.
